Gov Hooka 8,008
The name Lady Gaga fascinated me when I first heard of her. I thought she was black for the largest amount of time in 2009 until Bad Romance came out. Mess

Shadow 6,626
I don't know. Stefani sounds like it could be memorable, since we are going for mainly recognizable names. Try to step outside of idea that 'she is Lady Gaga, therefore is it is abetted stage name because she took off," since we don't know how things might have played out otherwise. She could have been just as big. I guess in a way, her name is another aspect of interest, because when interviews ask how she got it, she can describe about it giving more expressions of what inspires her and drives her as an artist. Whereas, regular, short names are easy to remember, but that is it. No one asks about Katy Perry's and Amy Winehouse's names. Do your own research. Dunk96 2,526
I find it interesting how they have stage names. It makes the aspect of in character, with all the wigs makeup etc. seem all part of her stage persona. Even if she is the same person, being recognized as Lady Gaga is better for me. I feel like her real family and friends should call her Stefani, not her fans. Also, Gaga is more unique than Stefani. :P People could confuse Stefani as a ordinary name. Like in a conversation or something.

Truth 90
Again, how would you know this? I think we can all realize it. I know many even more talented artists and they will probably never have commercial success.
Michael 533
Well, providing that the music/image was the same, I think 'Stefani' would have done fine.

Vernier 3,786
I'm not sure it'd have made much difference tbh, but it certainly would have been odd to me in hindsight. You'd have this talented, over the top artiste, but with a "normal", ordinary name like Stefani Doesn't match. Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn
Didymus 34,379
I actually think it could've worked. I think both Stefani and Germanotta would be memorable words for people. I think I prefer her real name, because I feel like "Lady Gaga" was too random and meaningless to begin with? It did sound cool and stimulating when she was on her road to stardom, but now it doesn't seem to fit anymore. In my personal opinion, of course. Edit: I take back my final words, since I realized after re-reading it that I don't have a problem with her artist name and more with the work that she produces under that name. Thà t doesn't fit the name/the artist. Again, in my personal opinion ;)
