giskardsb 12,565
Robyn has produced some great music. That makes her successful. Certainly more successful than anyone one this board.
Ambrosia 3,775
An introduction to flamboyance means eating cheerios and creating a shock value that may not have had the same impact if she was was known only as Stefani. Not the Cheerio's again. You are right, Lady Gaga dumps the box in her mouth which represents metaphorical c-----e and subsequent supposed overdose. Stefani would have had a nice bowl at the table with a spoon - boring. But ya know, looking back on older groups I love, I only hear the music. I can't remember what they were wearing or doing to garnish attention, I only know words as I listen to music far more than watch it. Which makes me realize any shock value or name-changing only gets you in the door - true talent sticks. Gaga said that, "the kind of music I make is the kind you look at..." I think Gaga is the flamboyance that Stefani doesn't show. They work well together. Do not do to others what angers you if done to you by others. -Socrates
rslayer 0
I find it interesting how they have stage names. It makes the aspect of in character, with all the wigs makeup etc. seem all part of her stage persona. Even if she is the same person, being recognized as Lady Gaga is better for me. I feel like her real family and friends should call her Stefani, not her fans. Also, Gaga is more unique than Stefani. :P People could confuse Stefani as a ordinary name. Like in a conversation or something. THIS. Lady Gaga is an icon.
LaLuna 12,732
The name Lady Gaga is intriguing and has a lot of pizazz, it totally fits her persona. She needed a stage name that's as flamboyant as she is. Stefani is cool but a little too basic, it doesn't exactly scream "international superstar". Mills 446
With just the name but the same music and antics which made her a pop icon? Hmm, I think I might not be as interested to her at first as I am when I first heard about the name "Lady Gaga". Probably because her current stage name gives me that sense of mystique over her persona. But with that talent and stage presence, it's hard to not notice and be a fan of hers, regardless if she's called Gaga or she used her real birth name, Stefani. Jewels n Drugs 4,629
I wouldn't mind, but I seriously doubt she would have such success. "Lady Gaga" just sticks to your brain oh look when you werent looking my motorcycle turned into a piano
thefamefatale 264
Idk why people think it's just a matter of names.... Stefani and Gaga are two different people, musically, of course. Not mentally. They have different music don't be a drag
JustPokeHerFace 2,564
One of the things that really drew me into her was her stage name. I remember first hearing Poker Face, and her name interested me. Whenever other people were talking about her, the name Lady Gaga gave me this sense of mystique and it sounded so damn edgy. I definitely wouldn't have been as interested in her early on if she just went by Stefani.

ShadesOfCool 1
I would be here for it, I like ''Stefani'' more than ''Lady Gaga''
Chinosky 1,984
I think people would not even recognize her songs if she's called 'Stefani'. Idk if that is offensive or not so no offense. 'Lady Gaga' is catchy and very creative. Father, Son, and House of Cucci
Bear 7,515
In the early days, I imagine it would have made a lot of difference. People are much more likely to look up Lady Gaga than Stefani. After she had established some sort of foundation in her career, I doubt it would matter after that. I am glad she chose Gaga :)
Dr Rogoe 23
I don't know. Stefani sounds like it could be memorable, since we are going for mainly recognizable names. Try to step outside of idea that 'she is Lady Gaga, therefore is it is abetted stage name because she took off," since we don't know how things might have played out otherwise. She could have been just as big. I guess in a way, her name is another aspect of interest, because when interviews ask how she got it, she can describe about it giving more expressions of what inspires her and drives her as an artist. Whereas, regular, short names are easy to remember, but that is it. No one asks about Katy Perry's and Amy Winehouse's names. Katy Perry and Amy Winehouse are all stage names. Katy perry is short, catchy, cute, just like her image. When you heard the term WHINEHOUSE, you remember Amy's unique, drunk-ish voice. that's just my interpretation
pink sushi 4,351
The name Lady Gaga matches her over the top theatrics. Stefani does not. But then again....when she was just Stefani she wasn't as theatrical....If she remained that way I doubt she would be as successful. Her theatrics made her a star.
