I can't understand where Gaga sees ART in ARTPOP besides in its title

Art is in ARTPOP just like it has been in her whole career. She never said her other work wasn't art.

Going to re-post something I said in another thread: There is always thought behind her work, no matter the subject, and it's presented in an interesting, creative way. Besides, music itself is an art, and on top of that we should all know by now that Gaga is into the visuals in addition to that.

Watch the clip posted here, it's explained pretty well.

With AP Gaga means giving artistic references to her music. Its not only this album but all her albums, this is what she does. Now she just gave it a name and made it a part of her legacy.

Wait so unless it's referring to something like wearing a Mona Lisa dress, chopping her ear off like Van Gogh it can't be art?

Can't blame Gaga for the lack of your own artistic knowledge.

The only problem with ARTPOP is that it's indeed a term to describe her whole artistry and the actual album is just named after it imo

Watch her early TF era interviews when she talks about her vision of pop art and then watch/listen to her ARTPOP interviews again and it all makes perfect sense.

Music is a form of art. What makes this more artistic than other music is the way she created music out of her emotions. A track like Aura screams energy. Swine is such a powerful and strong song in which you can feel and hear the angriness of what she felt. Applause, on the other hand, is a very happy song. Why? Because Gaga felt that those instrumentals and vocals portrayed the emotions that she wanted to show. That's what makes ARTPOP more artistic (and raw) than for example a Britney album: because Britney's music doesn't show any kind of emotion, rawness, passion (and thus no art), because it isn't made from her own heart and she can't 'feel ' the lyrics like Gaga does, because she didn't write it.

Another thing is the numerous artistic references and the experimentalness shown in some of the tracks.

Gaga said in 2011 she calls 'ARTPOP' what she does (everything, since the very begining). Said she's just acknowledging a movement that started in the 70's (or even before), that means an installation of art in pop culture, for example: on a makup line inspired by an art trend (cubism, Renaissance, etc), on a commercial using a Mozart piece or a Botticcelli painting, on pop music videos, on a soup can, etc. The possibilities multiply with such mix, which is very exciting.

If you examine Gaga's work to date with that logic, you will find a bunch of art elements in her looks, videos, songs, live performances. Man, even in random candids.

Check this video, she explains it by herself here

When will people realise that being artistic doesn't just mean referencing other art or being high brow, it means creating something with deep meaning and beauty.

If you're stuck, check out the Applause video, the G.U.Y. video, the artRAVE release party, the artRAVE Ball, the album artwork, the album itself, the entire I+V photoshoot, the Bubble Dress 2.0, the SwineFest, SXSW, Volantis or any other element of this album era.

Thank you! THIS! I PRAISE THE LEO! :worship:

Y'all won't see art if you're narrow minded and when you hear the word art the first thing that pops to mind is paintings. Art is what she's created her whole career.

And ARTPOP has actually incoporated visual art into the process of ARTPOP era.

If you open your mind to the concept you'll notice more art.

"Free my mind ARTPOP. You make my heart stop."

I honestly feel Gaga has succeded with ARTPOP. Well done Gaga :artpop:

She should've never named it "ARTPOP" in the first place.... The only art for me would be the album cover..
