Seriously, Gaga achieved that with one and a half singles and not one of them was #1. Compare her to Rihanna and the success of the singles from Unapologetic. If she were to sell as much as Gaga does, she would have topped 4 million with Unapologetic (in the respective year of release), yet the numbers are the same with ARTPOP.

I was talking about the respective year of release, meaning how much Unapologetic/ARTPOP sold till the end of the year of their release. Both albums were released in November 2012/2013. Of course Unapologetic has sold more now, it's been out longer and it's had other (successful) singles besides Diamonds. :)

It was the 9th best selling album of 2013.

It was the 4th best selling UMG album of 2013 

 

What kind of a fading star and flop? :rip: Top-10 for an album that was selling only for 2 months in 2013!

I guess all that negativity came from the fact that she doesn't sell 10+ mln anymore, and all artists experience decreased album sales as of recently

Vivendi is not very objective since it's from label numbers. Mediatraffic is there since the 90's, I think it's very trustful. I always take my numbers there.

 

For exemple, remember when ARTPOP was released one week before in Japan, the japanese chart said she sold almost 60,000 copies the first week there. Mediatraffic reported the first week sale of ARTPOP was 58,000 and it was Japan Interscope. You can trust Mediatraffic.

Yes but it's not from only one label. The best example I can give you it's last week, a local singer from where I live release an album and she's only big where I live. Local media said she sold 14,000 copies the first week. She's also a bit big in France. Mediatraffic reported she sold 16,000 copies WW the first week. The numbers they released seem very accurate.

They are not accurate, especially when looking at artists like Gaga, who sell 3x (or more) their number of US sales numbers.

Media traffic is a guy who gets his numbers from IFPI and other official sources, who then estimates a bunch of other countries and leaves others out completely. We have official numbers from professional, legitimate sources and mediatraffic is not one of those sources. It is a site from a guy with a hobby.

IFPI has been in operation since 1933, and has 1,400 members in 66 countries and affiliated industry associations in an additional 45 countries. That means they work with the recording industry in over 100 countries.

 

The IFPI isn't Bubba on a computer in a basement. It is a legitimate, well-respected organization in the recording industry on a global scale.

I know Mediatraffic is not 100% accurate, but it gives a very good approximation of sales around the world. I've read that it represents about 80% of the real sales numbers. I largely prefer to refer to those numbers than to label numbers, which often include shipments in their final reports.
