HernanMinogue 1
Every legend has a flop era...for example, Michael Jackson with invisible and Madonna with 'American Life'. Gaga joins, many legends, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears & Christina Aguilera etc...so I believe Gaga cemented herself as a legend with ARTPOP by flopping :) lol jk monsters I love GAga! Didymus 34,380
So you're saying she has become a legend because she has worked with more talented people than her? When your own album isn't selling, sure, you can have artists "use" her for publicity/marketing reasons, but that's hardly a good thing, right? She had almost zero input on any of those projects you mentioned
Tokyo Rose 1,475
I think what the OP is trying to point out is the huge disparity between Gaga and her contemporaries. While the rest are collaborating with other successful artists / producers just to sell records, Gaga looks beyond the music industry to find more people to work with and to expand her creative kingdom. This may not always turn out well, but you can see at least the girl TRIES. Listing off collaborations is quite a weak way to "prove" Gaga's legend status. And why is it so important that she's a legend in the first place? Let her work speak for itself
Ladle Ghoulash 24,983
Eh, even when it seems like she's not doing as good.. she's still succeeding. She's been doing this since TFM; aligning herself with many well-known people as they agree to work with her, too. And I find it funny how some people try their best to discredit her, but she continues working with people who have built their brands from the ground up and have a sturdy/successful legacy. Preach. People can say "ARTFLOP" until they suffocate, but, how many of them are Elton John's son's godmother, have performed with Yoko Ono, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Tony Bennett, Debbie Harry, Beyonce, Elton John, Brian May, and have been praised by countless celebrities and cultural icons? Yeah, okay, thought so. We have forgotten our public MANNERS
Yves 1,891
Not you including the Muppets making her a LEGEND. They aren't legends Impressive for an underperforming era (in her standards) :applause:

Bebe 17,094
So you're saying she has become a legend because she has worked with more talented people than her? You are the only person who has said the people she works with are more talented than her ;) Gaga is the one directing who she wants to work with and what she wants to do. Do you think Andy Warhol is a legend because of his Fame Factory and the work that other people did? Gaga is taking, reinterpreting and creating. She is creating her own legacy and it's through her music and direction. I couldn't post all of the images of her own work, but being on a Gaga fansite you would assume people here are familiar with what she has done. What she is doing now is literally immortalising herself AND HER WORK through other famous and iconic artworks. G.U.Y might not have been a #1 song but she filmed it at Hearst Castle and used custom works of Nathan Sawaya (That SHE ordered) and Koons in her video. She is in creative control of her image, and it is her image that is going to be immortalised. Her work has always centered around the idea of fame. Now her image and fame will be discussed for generations. I did however choose to post the DWUW picture because I genuinely think that is one of the most powerful work she has ever created. The photograph might not have been taken by her but she is the one who decided to write/sing a song titled Do What You Want, perform it with R.Kelly (who has been accused of child ****oraphy and peeing on girls) and then film an "Unreleased" video with him directed by Terry Richardson (who also has a history of s-xploitation accusations). I think it is an interesting take on the celebrity s-x tape and exploitation.
Bebe 17,094
Not you including the Muppets making her a LEGEND. They aren't legends No but they are pop culture icons. Listing off collaborations is quite a weak way to "prove" Gaga's legend status. And why is it so important that she's a legend in the first place? Let her work speak for itself I don't think you understand. Lady Gaga is "The Fame" that is her art and it has been from the beginning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kd4x-_iL85s http://www.cbsnews.com/news/lady-gaga-on-mastering-the-art-of-fame/

Miel 15,009
As much as ARTPOP's been rocky for me, I don't deny Gaga's impact and work. I kind of get where Didymus is going, in that lot of what OP posted is mainly her working with other artists- but, imo, it's still incredibly impressive. To think, even when she's seen as "flopping", she's still striving to work with artists to promote what she considers is the message of ARTPOP, rather than just follow the path of her peers in what is seen as successful. I'm not ARTPOP's biggest fan- partly because the album didn't live up to my expectations (still good) but also partly because of the possible discrepancies between Gaga's artistic intention and the dilution of it by higher-uppers- but even when she's not winning, she definitely isn't losing, and least not in my eyes. The unofficial start of the ARTPOP era http://vimeo.com/71919803 I remember hoping ARTPOP would have been or at least started, along this vein, at least thematically. 3 points in and ready for more
