VISION 52
EDM = Electronic Dance Music EDM = everything on the album except for Dope and ARTPOP (kind of) The end of Fashion! is very EDM
juicyjuicy 1,981
I definitely agree. I was expecting something similar to Avicii, Martin Garrix, Calvin Harris, Tiesto, or Armin van Buuren. When she announced she was working with Zedd and Madeon, I was so happy. But then we got ARTPOP which was totally not what I had expected. My friend said "this album is so much more R&B than her previous ones!" ...I'm like...this is an EDM album. ;___; Guess not.
DrewStevens 5,249
Most of the album is EDM. EDM is not only House, Trance or Dubstep. EDM is not a genre.
IAmTheX 0
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARTPOP When Gaga had her little twitter feud with Calvin Harris about EDM I thought ARTPOP would be an EDM album from start to finish. The only really sounding hard EDM tracks are Swine, Aura, and Donatella sort of. Even when Stache sounded like a hard EDM track, I wish she had songs like Animals by Martin Garrix or even the beat from SELFIE. ARTPOP then would have truly done better because that is what people are into now. ARTPOP still has flawless tracks though. I think Gaga and most fans (me included) don't give a **** bout what people are into now tbh. And GUY, Applause, Venus and Gypsy are EDM, so that means 7 out of 15 songs are EDM, so I'd say it's her most EDM album
JSRD 171
Gaga's original vision was much more ravey and EDM sounding. PARTYNAUSEOUS, High Princess, Tinnitus, Swine, etc. fit that theme much more. Let's not forget that there were so many songs that didn't make it onto the album that probably were much more experimental than those that did. Those songs were probably the true ARTPOP, and the basis for the album being considered EDM. weve heard swine

Cody Draco 2,531
EDM = Electronic Dance Music Most of the songs on the album are electronic and the listener can dance to them. Pop = Popular EDM is popular right now therefore it is Pop.
eamonster123 0
ARTPOP only has like 3 actual edm songs, i wouldnt consider it to be an edm album tbh
MonsterofFame 1,785
ARTPOP already has an "Animals" style song -- Swine. That song is a true EDM song... the drop, beats, and minimal lyrics in the chorus. I think she found a good balance of EDM and pop in ARTPOP.
Wet Fire 7,247
The whole album is EDM from start to finish except ARTPOP and Dope. EDM consists of lots of other genres (i.e. Techno, Eurodance, House etc.) and Gaga uses those genres in the majority of ARTPOP's musicality. It's not hard EDM as it wasn't meant to be so. Songs like G.U.Y., Mary Jane Holland (that you didn't mention in the OP) are clearly EDM too.
Dayman 6,148
EDM is more than just generic stuff like Animals and #SELFIE Aura, Venus, G.U.Y., Jewels n' Drugs, Do What U Want, ARTPOP, Swine, Donatella, Mary Jane Holland and Applause all have very obvious EDM influences through out. EDM is as broad of a term as Rock or Pop - there are dozens of sub divisons of the genres and not all are similar.
tokyodisko 0
tbh even BTW could be considered EDM at some points. I just expected a harder-hitting EDM when she described ARTPOP, not some light fluff that toed the line. Go big or go home imo.
aaronyoji 2,054
god so much pretention im sensing :yoda voice: listen, edm is more than just dick shaking boy's club crap spewed out by the likes of deadmouse, and scrillet. edm is like many have said, a broad term for many electronic genres. i think the op and some others are confusing "edm" with "beat oriented". songs like selfie and turn down for what and animals are more beat oriented because there isnt really songwriting to them, so the beat is the main focus. but gaga is first and foremost a songwriter, and a musician, so everything she does will revolve around melodies, chords, nuance, fluidity. just because her songs dont have a build up and some anti-climactic bass driven breakdown doesnt make it any less edm.
