crownlessking 158
I love ARTPOP and I don't think it was 'meant' to fail. Gaga said it was filled with club bangers and she jumped on the EDM bandwagon just a tad too late. None of this is bad, we still got a product we enjoy and Gaga still had a #1 album. However, it feels the least 'Gaga-esque' to me. It's experimental, which is good, but I think she just needs a clear-cut concept, a clearer focus in terms of the sound and the direction, and much better execution of promotion, singles, and performances. But it's her career. We'll be there for her no matter what.

crownlessking 158
Literally turned off in the first sentence... Jeez ARTPOP did not fail ...she started the EDM bandwagon though I always see 'dance' that Gaga brought with just dance and telephone to be an entirely different genre to the EDM produced by the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Calvin Harris, Zedd etc., but I guess it's just evolved rapidly. But yeah, you're right, I just didn't see them as being interlinked haha.
Nemo 4,293
ARTPOP was meant to fail, and there was nothing she could do about it.The term you want is "inevitable", or "destined to" -- not "meant to", which means "intended".

No I gotchu, i totally agree! i feel like it changed from being called "dance music" to "electronic dance music" when it started to get heavier and more producer-centered, and then everybody just forgot about the fact that it was Gaga and RedOne :king: who segued the pop landscape in that direction

Batwings 12,885
I have never, at any point, heard a single person say, "I'm not into Lady Gaga because she is a gays-only artist." Why do so many fans insist that thousands of people feel that way? As long as they enjoy the music, people usually don't care about such things. Punky 15
ARTPOP was meant to fail, and there was nothing she could do about it. It all started with TFM and Bad Romance, a mega successful era, an unprecedented leap to the top, which created an insane overhype for BTW, that was stained from the start with the Madonna thing, but actually earned more hype and popularity because of it at the start, until it became stale a year later with the reductive comment, and overload of support for the LGBT community that set her not just as a gay icon, but more into a gay only artist (was it at jimmy kimmel show, that she said something like "id love my baby more if hes gay"? she lost thousands of ARTPOP sales with that, trust me), and finish it with 20 dates cancelled on her home country? THIS WAS MEANT TO HAPPEN,, even if she had 15 bad romances in there and her whole team from back then, it probably would have gotten 100k more sales, at most BUT, this is good, because people know shes still around, in the background but she still makes noise, next year, with Cheek to cheek, everything is going to change, it will be a brainwash for the world to make them forget about all those things and realize that Gaga = talent, and thats the perfect set up for the next full era. bookmark me, her next era after C2C will be her biggest one yet, ARTPOP is like a free era for her, like an experiment Sorry, don't trust you or your flop theories. whiteboi1327 84
I actually agree 100%. I have listened to the album a lot lately to critique it and I feel like a good amount of production sounds off and just plain bad quality. She killed Aura. The demo version had passion along with a decent beat. Then we hear the album version that made me think "is this a joke?" I still can't listen to the album version, it sounds boring. Also Sex Dreams. The iTunes festival version sounded good. The album version sounds plain and flat on the verses. It's almost awkward to listen to. Swine just got old too fast. Fashion and Dope are just forgettable In all honesty, applause, gypsy, guy, and DWUW are the only songs that still sound good to me. This album just doesn't stick right. Songs that could have done well ended up with bad production.
