Would DWUW been ARTPOPs #1?

No way, not in the US. Too much competition at that time and too much baggage.

The video would have at least had it enter the top 10, but that's about it.

If they had played the Beats ad in the US the way they were in other parts of the world, DWUW could have gone top 3-5, with the commercial, the right timing and promo, and a killer video. That's a lot of "ifs". :)

It would have been in the top 10 if she performed it at the youtube music awards. But she played dope instead...

No one cared about TYMA though... It was like C-Class importance. And Dope went #1.

If the vid is as controversial as people think it would've been, I think it would've created a lot more buzz around the song so yeah, it definitely could've gone #1

Agreed, definitely here in the UK too

I think it may have done very, very well in the charts if it was supported properly (read as: if the pre-album era wasn't such a dramatic mess). The video, trashy and gross as it may have been (and I'm here for that) would have made people watch it, so she would have gotten the all-important US #1. Here in Ireland, it got into the top 10 I think, but only for a week, but people caught on to it quickly, it was a real shame, and a wasted opportunity that it didn't do better. Eh, no point dwelling I guess.

Yes it could have been had it been managed better, with proper promotion and an under 4 minute video.

It had so much potential, it never did reach its peak.

Yes. Applause was a good choice, but DWUW would've been a better choice by tenfold. "Art in pop culture in me koons art marina applause" was.... a turn off, to say the least. DWUW was a perfectly relatable tune that people can instantly say, "Yup. That's classic Gaga. She's back." Plus with her Xtina-esque vocals that the GP haven't heard from her before...I swear, this era would be completely different if she had gone that route.

I never understood that. It was the beginning of the era. What made her feel like she needed to rush?

EDIT: Omg, I thought this was asking if DWUW should've been the lead single. :megaflop: nvm

She should have released the solo version as the lead single and released a remix featuring R. Kelly for Rhythmic stations.

Probably on Grindr

Maybe not #1 but probably her biggest hit after Born This Way. The promo was good but the lack of a music video killed the song. The song would have been way more successful with a proper release.

It would've been TEOG of ARTPOP probably, meaning it would've reached #3, one spot better than Applause.
