Do you think Gaga REALLY doesn't care about the charts

All artists care about charts.  They have to cause charts are part of what lets them keep their jobs.

An artist saying they don't care about the charts is like when people say they don't care about the money.  Of course they care about the money.

If Gaga didn't care about the chartism she wouldn't beg people to buy her music and tweet every chart milestone.

I don't think its about the charts literally, I think its about what the charts mean. Shes made it unintentionally clear this era and even just before it that she cares a great deal how people perceive her and what they think of her. She probably hates herself for it but she seems plagued by her bad press and by the fact that shes not deemed as cool as she was 4 years ago. As much as I do like ARTPOP, it translated not only into the album but the era as a whole. Its good mind you, not bad, but not up to her potential. Shes more than this. I think she will be more than this in the future.

beg? stan exaggeration. every artist tweets their music/singles/videos etc to the same extent that she has.

She offered a reward to who could buy the most copies, then she tweeted a playlist to watch the video a **** ton of times to try and use streaming.

So did Britney Spears. So did Katy Perry. Its called marketing. Its called Gaga being excited about her new music. The only reason people blow it out of proportion and try to to twist it to seem out of the ordinary or desperate is because shes Lady Gaga and they wanted to. And some fans give into it because they're spineless pop fanatics that try too hard to not have their own opinion so they're not out of the loop.

She may not care about the charts, and won't let them alter her musical direction, but deep down they matter. Charts determine her funding, and her future potential, especially if she wants to have the same production budget. They matter, they just don't affect her music at this point. There is a difference.

Britney and Katy didn't offer a chance to meet them to the person who buys the most copies. And yes I know the winner wasn't someone who bought a lot of copies but it would've been if the controversy from billboard didn't happen.

However I don't think it's bad Gaga cares about the charts, I'm just saying she does.

Britney and Katy both had contests and sponsorships themselves. Not to mention Britney also posted links to her video trying to get more streams. Its the nature of the business. Once again, people only blow it out of proportion because its Gaga. There was no scandal. And people like you buy into it because you lack individual thought.

But did Katy or Britney reward people for buying multiple copies of Roar/WorkBitch? And they posted links but did they post playlists fans could play?

Also even tho Britney and Katy do some things, that just sows they care aBout charts. If Gaga does the same thing, she's trying to sell herself and therefore cares.

Yes Britney Spears posted a playlist for fans to play and whats stupid about that being a "scandal" in the first place is that those things don't even work. You can only watch a video like twice before it doesn't count. And whats more is that the fact that Britney also did it and no one said a word about it speaks to how much people seek to find reasons to talk **** about Gaga because she is Gaga further proving my point.

And im not arguing against her caring. I just don't think she cares for the same reasons you do, I think shes made it unintentionally clear that she cares too much how people perceive her. The charts are apart of that but only for what they represent, not that she literally cares whether or not she tops the charts for 8 weeks. Its what it represents for her. I think a part of her resents the fact that shes not deemed as "cool" as she was 4 years ago. The charts are a reflection of that. And her insecurity translated into her music and into the era itself. She seems plagued.

She is obviously defiant about charts. Because she isn't willing to give up her ideals/ideas/individualism, and when those things do not perform successfully, first she gets sad (MTN) and then she's like: FINE IF YOU DON'T WANT IT I WON'T DO IT!!! Shows perfectly in her keynote interview, where she was basically threatening the world: if you won't love me I'll just go away....

It is actually really immature, but what can you do....

she never said those things.  You are interpreting her words to make it sound like she's throwing a tantrum but she's not.  She said she won't sacrifice what she wants to do for the sake simply of hit records, and won't let anyone else try to control her career. She'd go back to playing clubs.  That's not an immature stance at all.  It's somebody standing up for her work even when other people tell her she should change it for her "career's" sake.
