People never make these conclusions about Katy's fan base or Ariana Grande's fan base etc.

So why us?

:rip:

You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.

Because Gaga is an outspoken gay activist, so much it features in her bio in wiki

Gay queen - gay fans

I can really sympathise with what you go through. I'm lucky to be a girl and therefore can admit I like any artist or go to any live show without having assumptions made about me, but straight males can't do that. I would hate to be a straight male Gaga fan and feel too uncomfortable to admit I like her or go see her live for fear of being assumed to be something I'm not, being hit on by gays or potentially facing attack from a homophobe because of the association: male + gaga fan = gay. It's the big negative side effect resulting from Gaga advertising herself so aggressively as an artist for the gays. I don't think she's really stopped to think that she's limiting her appeal to straights, making her straight fans feel alienated, making her straight fans feel too uncomfortable to give her custom, making her straight fans feel too embarrassed to admit they're a fan of her. Seriously, an artist should operate under the philosophy of "my music is for everyone." Someone once posted an article here that explained why Gaga remains so successful and one of the reasons was because instead of appealing to the casual public, she targets the 1% fanatics. And yes, it is a good business strategy to do this, but why should this 1% have to fit such specific criteria? It's going to end up more like 0.1% if that's what you're going with. Besides, isn't it better not to try too hard to appeal to a certain community? I've found it tends to work out better for you if you just let them come to you. Madonna, Kylie, Britney, etc have huge gay fanbases and have embraced them, but they never marketed themselves to the gays initially. They all started out as typical s-x bombs designed to appeal to girls who wanted to be like them and guys who wanted to be with them. It just so happened that they ended up with a large fanbase that they didn't expect.

What's up with the hate against straights in this thread? You'd think gays that have experienced this kind of prejudice would be a little more open-minded. Even of it is a joke

Exactly. Be the change you wish to see in the world. All orientations should respect all orientations, not freeze them out because they're not part of their "club." I've heard some gays refer to straight people as really derogatory terms like "breeders" and making horrible comments about girls private parts and even referring to them as "vaginas." What's unfortunate is that the few overshadow the many, so we're led to believe that all gays are like this.

This thread really shows that many many many many people still consider 'gay' as an insult.

May the Lord protect you from being part of such a 'ugly group'.
