Gagz 2,572
I never said she wasn't an artist though, I said she is a different level of artist. There are painters that draw whatever is in their mind and whenever they feel it right and they even take months to end their work and there are also the ones that draw you in the streets whenever you ask them and they sell it to you to take the money. Both are artists, both have made their choices but no they are not in the same level. But who are you to say that Katy isn't drawing exactly what's in her mind exactly when she wants to? What do you know at all about her creative process?

I don't need to know her creative process when all her works speak for themselves. I mean how can you deny that?

But how do you know she's not just making music that she likes and it just happens to be what the public likes as well? If she were making the exact same music, but it flopped, people would be calling it art.

And it is not about the kind of music alone, its the construction of the music, the producers, the videoa, everything is made to appeal, nothing of all these is natural. All her songs have the most basic and commercial construction, the most basic lyrics, the most commercial production produced by the most commercial producers, the most commercial and appealing videos for kids and girls and its almost all of her songs in all her albums. Things that come natural are not symmetric and they are not similar, its a law of nature. I, like God don't play with dice and I don't believe in coincidence, said Shakespeare. Only contructed things can be made like that and its obvious that Kart had made her choices. It'd not a coincidence that Grammy's haven't chosen her for an award yet after all this commercial success that she has all these years. (not that winning a Grammy or not winning a Grammy is such important in our age, lets be honest but its definitely not a coincidence).
VforVendetta 2,024
Damn u wrote a long ass essay. But I agree with most of your points save for Beyonce maybe. I think she does cater to the GP to a certain extent. Or at least she used to. At this point in her career tho I don't think she cares anymore. and I don't know if I would necessarily say Britney created her image all by herself. I would say her label/team helped her create that and then she took the ball and ran with it. But I see what your saying tho. This whole comparing Katy to gaga thing on this forum is ridiculous. Its apples to oranges. And I like your avatar by the way. :) Thanks. As for Britney, regardless if the image was made by herself she was the first one to do it and so she has the advantage of taking the credits. Whispering 18,865
to make a comparison to the late 80's... Katy Perry is more like Tiffany & Gaga is more like Madonna. Tiffany was completely forgotten within a decade... Although she was huge for a few years. Katy is more like the modern day Paula Abdul.
VforVendetta 2,024
Katy is more like the modern day Paula Abdul. The Madonna shade though. :rip:
Whispering 18,865
The Madonna shade though. I know! This cover was in 1990. Look who ended up being the Icon....NOT Paula Abdul! ;) Replace Paula's name with Katy's and Madonna's with Gaga's and you have the current situation, which says nothing about what will happen 5 years from now or nothing about how their contributions to music will be viewed a decade or two from now. starrynights 0
Britney is iconic, indeed. She should be held partly responsible for ruining mainstream pop music. She's legendary.

Well you have a point, Britney was the beginning of the end for the Pop music of 21 century but her influence can't be doubted.
wahkeenasitka 1,980
Who is she? just shows how old I am. in 1989, I was 10 years old & Paula Abdul & Tiffany were HUGE. Yeah, I agree with the others; Paula Abdul is definitely a better comparison. Britney is iconic, indeed. She should be held partly responsible for ruining mainstream pop music. She's legendary. ruining mainstream pop music: yes. legendary: that's highly subjective & debatable. Katy is more like the modern day Paula Abdul. yeah. i'd agree with that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El1kgCqD7Xk speaking of Paula Abdul, this was my favorite song of hers circa 1989ish. sometimes I think I'm the oldest person who is on this board.. anybody else that was born in the 70s on this board?
