My mother and sister have it.

A lot of it is psychosomatic but what you have to realise is that it's real pain to that person. It is brought on by mental and physical trauma such as rape, broken bones, untreated stress etc.

Very difficult to pinpoint what it is, however, it's not something to be laughed at. It can develop in the lead up to lupus.

I take it you're in the states. In the UK it's a fully verified illness.

I'm in Sweden, come from Portugal. It's taken a little more seriously in Sweden, and by that I mean that patients can get some Naproxen, but that's it. It is still seen with a very sceptic eye.

Here they're given a cocktail of very strong medication. I have taken it to mean "various severe pain".

also, we have to take into consideration that the doctors only have the subjective description of the patient's pain

Yaaaas :hor: ready to take care of perio cases with 12 mm pockets and pus? The real life is delicious. No, seriously, the best part of your life will now start. Meeting patients and helping them is the best part of this whole thing.

Where are you going to work, though?

I'm in the business too :bon: that's so cool to know you guys

That is so cool! I still don't know the difference between a dental hygienist and a dental nurse, but I would like a mixed practice since dutch dental hygienist can do regular check ups and occlusal cavities too.

I'm sorry for being off topic. Can we make a thread or something? :gaycat:

I've been reading a lot about fibromyalgia and it is a real physical disorder. It can be triggered by a physical injury or emotional trauma, or it can occur with no specific trigger. From what I understand, its a problem with tour central nervous system. Your nerves don't act the way they are supposed to, like they go haywire. What happens is, your body thinks it is injured and sends out pain signals, so you feel pain, as if you have an injury, when there is none. This is a theory though. Nobody really knows exactly what is occurring, but this makes a lot of sense to me.

On top of that mental and physical distress make the pain worse because tour body essentially overreacts. For example, if someone with fibromyalgia stubs their toe, they may experience pain as if they broke their toe.

No one is denying that the pain is real. Those symptoms can be caused by all sorts of things though, and not knowing what is wrong is the worst. Sometimes giving it a name, even if that name means nothing, can be comforting.

I’m going to listen to my rheumatologist, one of the best in the country by the way, and not a dentist, thank you very much.

I find it absolutely disgusting that you and your colleagues “laugh” at the topic of fibromyalgia. Maybe you are all in the wrong profession.

:sweat: If your rheumatologist is a good, updated and informed one, he will have the same scientific sources as any professional in the health department has. Science is science, doesn't matter your reputation.

And nobody doubts that people suffer or have actually some source of pain. People laugh at the idea of fibromyalgia as a disease. It's just known as a bag of unidentified diseases. Take a chill pill, honey.

I watched an hour long video the other night with two doctors discussing fibromyalgia and have done some research. GAga’s symptoms fall perfectly in fibromyalgia diagnosis. Idk if you guys heard but when she was listing the medicines she took she mentioned her thyroid, now apparently one of the symptoms in fibromyalgia has to do with hypothyroidism which has its own array of problems whithin itself.

Fibromyalgia is triggered by the stress gland in the brain which sends the body into a permanent state of fight or flight, which is why patients get chronic muscular spams, headaches, sometimes high blood pressure, bladder and bowel problems. It also apparently comes with anxiety and depression only makes it worse.

Now imagine being an important popstar when a lot of people depend on you to be well. And you’re diagnosed with this disease that nobody knows about. It’s stressful. Now dealing with previous records of anxiety and PTSD. Even more stressful.

AND NOW at this moment, Gaga is facing the cancellation of RIR and the rescheduling of half of her world tour. These are extremely stressful situations, she might believe she will never be able to tour again, I’m sure LIVenation is gonna be more severe on her, also seeing her fans in distress is obviously stressing her out and those are all triggers to a fibromyalgia flare up.

the human body is amazing at adapting to a lot of situations, including diseases and this is a specially debilitating one, especially when it comes to such an active person like Gaga. Of course she has her entourage of doctors and medical supplies that help but at the end of the day it has no cure, and not all the money in the world will buy her health back. I really hope she’s able to continue with the tour to the best of her ability and follow medical instructions carefully so she can push through with as little pain as possible.

Again im  not a doctor yall but i have done a bunch of research and its very interesting to me.

Which sources are you using for your research? Medical databases?

Well my rheumatologist is a "she" for one.

Laughing at an individuals chronic pain is disgusting. You should learn to stay in your own lane. Or I guess maybe you chose the right profession after all. You're a dentist, right? Interesting. I have Sjögren's syndrome and have seen plenty of you for most of my life. You are a glorified dental hygienist who makes dentures, fills cavities, and sends anything even remotely difficult to a specialist or oral surgeon.

And yes, science is science. I am actually a scientist that more than likely knows more about the human body, both physically and psychologically, than you. :nails:

I'm confused. There are plenty of physicians who have done research in favor of this disease that you seem to negate. :oprah:

And yes, I have access to medical databases as well.
