The bees are highly symbolic of the nature of a cult, or in a pop culture sense, fanatical people devoted to certain people. A lot of bees are drones living only to serve the queen. The drone bees are the males, their only use is to mate with the queen and allow her to reproduce. The female bees do all the work - pollination, gathering nectar, they don't even have stingers.
