When I bow down to pray, I try to make the worse seem better.

Lord, show me the way, to cut through all this worn down leather.

The two verses of John Wayne are my faves from Joanne. They are like an incredible poem. They have such energy and make you feel like you are in the car racing. :firega: Flawleess!

Forever and Always!

Irrelevant

It wasn't laaaaaaaaaaav!

It wasn't laaaaaaaaaaav!

It was a perfect illuuuuuuuuuusion! (perfect illusion!)

Mistaken for laaaaaaaaaaav!

It wasn't laaaaaaaaaaav!

It was a perfect illuuuuuuuuuusion! (perfect illusion!)

Ohhhhhhhhhh

It was a perfect illusion! :music:

Spoiler

Its the best line sonically, not lyrically :poot:

Watch your blues turn gold

I don't want to break the heart of any other man but you

I'll still love you even if I can't see you anymore

Come tomorrow who are you gonna follow? There's gonna be no future if we don't figure this out.

After all, it's just another day.

"the only prisons that exist are one's we put each other in"

Young, wild, American
C'mon baby, do you have a girlfriend?
Rain on me a million
I'm not flawless, but I gotta diamond heart

AND

Spoiler

I confess I am lost
In the age of the social
On our knees, take a test
To be lovin' and grateful

Shots were fired on the street
By the church where we used to meet
Angel down, angel down
But the people just stood around

I'm a believer, it's a trial
Foolish and weaker, oh, oh, oh
I'd rather save an angel down
I'm a believer, it's chaos
Where are our leaders? Oh, oh, oh
I'd rather save an angel down

Doesn't everyone belong
In the arms of the sacred
Why do we pretend we're wrong?
Has our young courage faded?

Shots were fired on the street
By the church where we used to meet
Angel down, angel down
Why do people just stand around?

I'm a believer, it's a trial
Foolish and weaker, oh, oh, oh
I'd rather save an angel down
I'm a believer, it's chaos
Where are our leaders? Oh, oh, oh
I'd rather save an angel down

I'm a believer, it's a trial
Foolish and weaker, oh, oh, oh
I'd rather save an angel down
I'm a believer, it's chaos
Where are our leaders? Oh, oh, oh
I'd rather save an angel down

Save that angel
Hear that angel
Catch my angel
Save that angel
Hear that angel
Catch my angel
Hear that angel
Hear that angel
Catch my angel
Save that angel
Hear that angel
Catch my angel
Hear that angel
Catch my angel

Listening hard to Joanne and Angel Down's lyrics the first time I heard them, both made me cry! And music doesn't usually hit me that hard.

Just everything about those songs impacted me.

"Take my hand, stay Joanne, Heaven's not ready for you" is that desperate moment of bargaining when someone is about to die and you don't want them to leave. "Every part of my aching heart, needs you more than the angels do" is just so touching. How she keep's bargaining and begging throughout the song 'girl, where do you think you're going?" it sounds like someone who isn't ready to let go. But then later on there's a moment of acceptance "honestly, I know where you're going. And baby, you're just moving on. And I'll still love you even if I can see you anymore... I can't wait to see you soar."   ugh it's heartbreaking.

And i get affected by the injustices happening around the world. Don't ask me why, I'm just a sad hippy. So hearing those words in Angel Down... again, all of them. But in particular "shots were fired on the street, by the church where we used to meet. Angel down! Angel down! ... Why do people just stand around?"

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

There are a lot of great one-liners in Diamond Heart but if i had to choose, i'd go with

"Girls playing bad 'cause it doesn't pay to be good." (my fave)

and

"One, five, ten, lay a million on me before the end of the song."

and the whole bridge is just amazing:

"Good thing I know what I'm worth
Want a good thing, put the money down first
Better get a good look baby
'Cause soon I'm breaking out of here"

for me it would be "look what that rainbow did" i take it in a very literal way. i cried when i it clicked for me what that lyric means. i thought of all the LGBT+ people who made a difference, all the ones that make an impact in small ways by just existing.

"I'm not flawless, but I've got a diamond heart." One of the catchiest choruses and lyrics she's written.

That line literally gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. It's the "Someday in Jakarta" of Joanne.

I hadn't thought about the literal meaning of it until now though! That's very interesting and very true!

" I can't wait to smoke them all, whole pack like Molboro."

I like racing so that's what it reminds me about!

Lace up my boots, throw on some leather and cruise.

This thread really showcases how every song on Joanne has substance to it. I love it!

There may be songs I like less than others, but I really don't feel as though there are any true "throwaway songs" on Joanne.

Obviously some people disagree with that, and that's fine.

I'm so glad people are realizing this!! Joanne literally has some of the most meaningful and best lyrics of her career. It's truly an amazing album
