Lady Gaga's 'Til It Happens To You' wins at Hollywood Music in Media Awards

Lady Gaga and Diane Warren's latest single "Til It Happens To You" has won its first award!

The track was named the best song in a documentary at last night's sixth annual Hollywood Music in Media Awards, the only awards show specifically devoted to music in film, TV, video games, commercials and trailers. "I usually lose stuff," said Warren as she accepted the prize. "I would like to dedicate this to the survivors — I refuse to call them victims — of sexual abuse. This is for you."

"Til It Happens To You" was co-written by Gaga and Warren for the Kirby Dick-directed documentary film The Hunting Ground, which deals with the growing issue of sexual assault on American college campuses. In September, the song was released as a part of a powerful PSA video, with a portion of proceeds from the sale of the tune going to organizations that help rape survivors.

"It's hard to listen to that song, it's hard to watch it,' Gaga told Billboard magazine. 'Diane really held my hand. I was like, 'I've done a lot of things Diane, but can I do this?' She was like, 'You can do this.' It was extremely cathartic to know that not only am I not alone, but that other men and women aren’t alone — we all have each other. Even outside of rape culture, there are a lot of people silently in pain about extremely traumatic things."

Monsters, do you think "Til It Happens To You" will also score an Oscar nomination? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
