Good for her but I still feel like the actual substance isn’t quite there imo. Not bad singles but not as seismic as she’s being hyped to be, even in pop. If anything, the “artist’s artist” thing should go to Cameron winter. It’s *really* been Geese’s year and they’ve actually had all the buzz that this blurb is talking about

Heavy Metal + Getting Killed (alongside the criminally underrated 3D/4D Country) are phenomenal and are some of the most exciting releases I’ve heard in a while. And even if you don’t like them (I do but even if you don’t) inarguably he’s had the actual hype they’re talking about and it’s been both publicity and super organic Side note, loved 3d4d country Edited yesterday at 06:15 PM by Ziggy

Like they originally only booked a handful of small venues for Getting Killed, then Heavy Metal started getting all this attention and the band was kind of thrust into the spotlight. Good for them, but it’s just interesting that I think some people suggest that they’re “industry plants” or that the hype is manufactured, but all of the evidence kind of suggests otherwise. Industry plant is a huuuuge stretch imo. It’s more that I think New York has been desperately waiting for a real cultural export since dimes square didn’t produce anything of note lol and so all the major players of publicity culture (New York magazine, New Yorker, NYTimes, Pitchfork, etc.) have all really rallied behind them. The prevailing sentiment seems to be “this is a NEW YORK band”. My friend made an interesting point that the indie rock scene rn seems to have a lot of regionalism to it and Geese and Cameron are v much the New York faction.
