I think it would have happened regardless even if she did not work with Dr Luke, but on a slower pace. There was massive hype for 143 before the record dropped unfortunately the quality of the music was just subpar. Her visuals remain extremely strong and some of the best pop has to offer. She just needs to make better music. she could also benefit by trying to score some collabs with relevant artists or at the very least people with niche fanbases. The only thing katy lacks as a pop star is good music. In fact, womans world was not a terrible song. If her second single was strong it could have been an abracadabra/disease moment. Katy had massive promo spots this era - Rock in Rio, MTV VMA Vanguard Performance, Australia AFL Halftime Show. Plus live in person tv appearances in Australia, UK, Mexico, Brazil, and RuPauls Drag Race. Capitol invested so much into the promo and got nothing in return.
