It's about time to bring this norm back in pop culture. Let an era be experienced with various music videos, performances, interviews for the album. I hope Gaga do this too (just like the old days).

Exactly. I get a little emotional thinking about how we went slowly from Born This Way to Judas to TEOG to You and I to Marry the Night. What an experience. in fact if MTN didn't flop, she was considering Heavy Metal Lover or ScheiBe to be the sixth.

Katy released 7 singles for Teenage Dream too and I think Gaga wanted the same for BTW.

Remember when Gaga said there would be like 10 singles from Born This Way? We shall see.

Remember when ARTPOP was supposed to be a visual album... it would have happened before Bey’s self title album, making Gaga the one to take credit for such a genius idea... sitting around thinking back at everything ARTPOP was supposed to be makes me so sad... visual album, performance in space, the app, ACT II... it would have been the most insane pop era EVER... she was so ambitious and excited back then, I hope the next project is at least a quarter as ambitious and exciting as ARTPOP was supposed to be.

John Wayne weren’t a single, the cure was just a random stand alone not a part of Joanne, 911 weren’t a single except in like France and somewhere else

Joanne was a single (and a promoted one at that). They may not have been sold in every territory but 911 and Free Woman still count as singles even if they were only a few countries (same thing with Always Remember Us This Way and I'll Never Love Again).

Are we just glossing over the fact that I’m saying I wish we had more era’s that would have six worldwide singles released so that the album has a longer lifeline for the GP worldwide, not just an extra single that becomes a single in a couple of random countries around the world :rip:

I've always been wondering: what does it mean when a song is a single?

I get the concept for songs that release before the album; you get the lead single, 1-2 more singles, all of those getting promo and videos and stuff, and then the album drops. But what does it mean when songs are chosen as singles after the album drops? At that stage all the fans have already heard it!

Is it a question of promo? A single will get sent to radio, possibly get a video, be talked about in interviews, be submitted for awards, while the non-singles just don't get all that attention? But then people in this thread are saying John Wayne was not a single but it did get a video... So is it all a question of promo? And of maybe singling out one song as "more important" in a way?

Usually what is considered as a single is what the Wikipedia community decides. I’m an editor there and they pretty much use official radio releases as an indicator or if reputable sources state a song is a single. John Wayne was never released for airplay in any country and never once was called a single by any sources. That’s why it is called an album track even if she released a cute video for it.

True! I also think that The Fame's era roll out was absolutely insane and iconic too. From Just Dance down to Paparazzi (VMA Performance) as album closure to enter The Fame Monster.

Ngl tho! I wished they milked The Fame Monster a bit more. Monster should have been a single. :messga:

TFM's visuals are insane. I am so hungry for more way back.

"And I still love you even if I can't see you anymore."

Im jealous of her fans :messga: hate how Joanne and Chromatica had two singles then an album drop, then no other singles :messga: it’s like the era ends for the public after the album drops

I mean, Chromatica had a weird rollout due to the pandemics and her ~exotic~ team and its ~exotic~ choices but yeah, like, why she dropped John Wayne with zero promo, went on tour and ended Joanne, that's a mystery that lasts.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Ooooh, so singles are the songs that are explicitly said to be singles; that really makes things more simple!!

Wikipedia is such a cool website, keep up the good work!
