that quote is :smh:

I know what she mean by that quote (and I support that) but US people acting like there are only two race in this universe, or acting like US is whole universe is so annoying.

Its like seeing Chris Rock at Academy 2016. (Not saying she is being that offensive :huntyga:)

When you start to realize how many genres derive from black people, the haters will be shook.

It says all music is black music for a reason and I'll leave it at that. :ladyhaha:

Maybe consider reacting seriously to serious matters instead of making some kind of witty stan joke, it sounds tired and tone deaf when talking about real life things.

Sis. We live in f***ed up times. I know what is important and do everything to make this world a better place as much as I can. But some people need to have some sense of humour if they want to deal with such hard things so don’t take them down because you don’t feel it.

Cherry Blues

Every culture, nation or race created music which influenced other genres.

But yes Blues or Jazz came from black people and they even influenced American Country from Irish immigrants and of course they influenced American culture strongly.

Black people influenced much also POP - think of Michael Jackson. African culture was important for todays American culture.

But also other nations brought their culture to US like Irish people for example.

That's why US is already and will be a very interesting culture in future - just needs time.

But Techno is Europe and Rock has also other roots and many other genres also : p

I understand clearly how strongly black culture influenced US music...

As much as I support the sentiment, what does it mean 'all music is black music?' Like K-POP is black music too? What about oriental music? I think she's throwing out a blanket statement here... educate me if I'm wrong.

Modern day Kpop is VERY much influenced by black music and black culture as a whole so yes, Kpop is black music.

Modern day Asian music is also inspired by genres that black people invented and/or pioneered considering how globalised music is on an international scale, speaking as an Asian person. All music is black music is not a controversial statement to make TBH.

Black people are the CREATORS of modern music.

Jazz, Rock N’ Roll, blues, R&B, Rap, Hip-Hop, Soul, etc. just from black Americans.

African elements have influenced music in Latin American countries.

The Asian music market sometimes mimics American music (created by black people).

Black people are not given enough credit for their contributions to society.

Music would be NOTHING without black creators and artists. PERIOD.

The hatred of rap and hip hop in certain prestigious music circles is inherently anti-blackness.

It means that a good 90% of all popular music genres have been derived from Black artists. Jazz, Rock, Country, Funk, Disco, Techno, House, Hip-Hop, R&B (and countless other genres) are all rooted in the accomplishments and hard work of Black musicians.

K-Pop is a great example as well because as of recent times, it has been HEAVILY influenced by Black artists and specifically Hip-Hop & R&B. Finding a trap beat on a K-Pop song is as easy as spotting a cow in a barnyard and there have been HUGE discussions going for almost a decade on what is inspiration and what is cultural appropriation of Black culture in K-Pop.

A sense of humor isn’t appropriate for all situations. I understand where you’re coming from, humor is my main go-to coping mechanism and ice breaker, but I can’t count the times where I just ended up looking and feeling like more of a jerk than I actually made someone feel better. I’m not trying to bring you down, there’s just a time and a place. And I suppose this is an LG forum, but sometimes I just think about if Gaga were to actually read some of the things we post here... Makes me a little sad. I hope you understand where I’m coming from, I wasn’t trying to offend you!

Well, I see a lot of kpop acts having this "rap/hip hop" trend and style that so so so so many youngers seem to love and appreciate, which wouldn't exist without black culture's hip hop and rap.

And what you see? Hip hop to this day is considered "bad music", "music for people with no taste"... but suddenly when you use it with your korean pop stars is "nice" and "impressive".

I'm not saying "black people invented everything" (and honestly I think this narrative only drives away the real sentiment of the protests) but we have to remember that we still to this day use features that started with the black community and were teared apart for being considered "bad" and once non black folks started using it people saw with different eyes. That's racism.

All music that is in the western world has its roots in black musicianship and music. Even rock and roll and country, and definitely kpop. Kpop is heavily influenced by western culture and even has rapping, hip-hop stylizations, and takes influence from hip-hop dance. I think this coalition is to make sure that black artists are actually going to be credited for their work.

Also, say eastern music. Oriental is a style of rug.

i agree with everything except for the last statement. some people simply do not like the style or sound of hip hop music. within the industry and within certain organisations like the academy? yes it is racist. but your statement is too general to specify that.
