The drop is not even comparable. Taylor has always been consistent and way bigger than Gaga. Double standards do exist but this is not it.

It's a joke.

Taylor is not bigger than Gaga outside of the US and 2009-2011 Gaga was way bigger in the US. Taylor has remained a commercial force because she plays it safe/is not offensive so she retains a wide demographic like Adele. A mother would be much happier with their child listening to Taylor Swift than the ‘outlandish’ and ‘sexual’ Lady Gaga. Taylor is literally the perfect example of white mediocrity winning. She didn’t stand for anything for the majority of her career and now all of sudden she’s being open with her politics, when it’s safer to support the gays. Just mediocrity all around.

She did this without the tour contest like she did with Reputation in which if you bought more albums you had a better chance at good seats! Queen!

She had all of the deluxe editions, but it's up to the fans to buy them and this time they had no reward when doing so. Her fan base is amazing!

I 100% agree with everything you said, but it really doesn’t matter. The only people who really care about numbers (besides record labels obviously) are stans on twitter and fan forums. We should just let her fans enjoy this and stop comparing with other, arguably better, artists. At the end of the day, McDonalds will always sell more burgers than a fancy restaurant would. There’s no use comparing apples and oranges. Let’s just let her fans enjoy this, they’re not hurting anyone.

It's always "never enough," for people.

I cant tell you how amazing it feels to hear, "You Need To Calm Down," blasting on the radio, in stores, restaurants, and anywhere else. The fact that, in the south, in America, a song like that is being blasted talking about gay pride and not stepping on his gown is a win in my eyes.

Taylor was a kid when she started. She wasnt exposed to a lot of things, and writes from a personal perspective. As she grew up, toured the world, became more cultured and aware of things, her music changed. She mentioned the LGBTQ+ community in Welcome to New York on 1989. Discovering yourself and what you stand for takes time, she isnt even 30 yet. She has grown, in front of us, I might add.

She is a mainstream, "safe," artist who is now using her platform to show support and eqaulity for all, including interracial relationships, like in her Lover music video. I dont see anything to complain about, but then again, we are on GGD.

She’s not an excellent singer/performer/dancer. The only thing she has going for her is her songwriting and even then she’s written some terrible lyrics. She’s a pretty, blonde white popstar, who sings Max Martin hits, who isn’t offensive which is why she’s kept herself afloat. White people have historically been rewarded for their mediocrity over POC who have to work much harder. This is relevant in music as well.

I think it’s a good thing she speaks up about gay rights. She’s just doing it now when it’s safer. Gaga had huge backlash for supporting the gays in 2011 with Born This away. She alienated so many people, I remember so many of my guy friends refused to listen to her music because she was too ‘gay’. Now Taylor releases a song about gay rights and nobody bats an eyelid, and my male friends say it’s okay to listen to her because she’s cute. I just think she’s your typical privileged white girl with mediocre talent who had her wealthy parents help her start her music career. That’s my opinion, take it or leave it.

Lmao. She must not be a great vocalist, but her voice is amazing & is so soothing to listen to.A pop star need not to have all the talents you know.Madonna was never a great vocalist either. You're fuming, but why?? Why her success bothers you so much. There are many pretty white girls flopping out there(like Carly) & many black artists with mediocre talents like Rihanna thriving. Why do you have no problem with that??
