Cher has the longer career yes but Madonna remains more of a cultural impact and influence in the realm of pop music over Cher. Both of them have hits but Cher definitely has not remained as dedicated to her musical output as Madonna has over the course of her career. I do find it pretty odd how people applauded Cher for her outfit and saying she's legendary and what not meanwhile tell Madonna to retire and she's an embarrassment for her outfits.
