She's proven she can come back like a beast (TEOM) but she ends up back in the safe zone again. I won't even count We Belong Together because that was/is a damn fine song period but since Don't Forget About Us, she's kept that same tempo in the mainstream. Songs that should've been huge like "Meteorite" went nowhere because of disastrous first single choices. She almost had it again tho with M...I A M" but overall it was lackluster. Her first singles used to SLAY and there's no way this song is the best on her upcoming project. She needs to come back HARD at first. Oh well. I love her personally and find her hilarious and fun but I miss Ms Mariah Carey the Butterfly Songstress. And the video is really boring and basically has no budget. Mariah looked really uncomfortable in that leather outfit and tried too hard to be sexy. She's in desperate need of new imagery, enough with the mansions and fancy clothes and luxury cars. It's sad that she can't seem to see that this is partly the reason why she doesn't sell like she used to. She's been doing the same thing over and over from the start, has made every little effort to modernise or develop her music or style and she did it one too many times and it's all so dated now. The Song peaked at #5 on iTunes, The Video has over 2M Views and over 40k likes. It's been very well received. She's not desperate or can't see that she doesn't sell like she used to do. That's not even her ambition. She just wants to make music that she likes. The Song is not 'off-key' because that's impossible. Songs are written in a key. She delivered the notes too. It's not good for YOU and I am sad that you may seem disappointed. She has several releases ahead and I hope you'll like one of those more. She has not done the same from the start. She's done Pop, Gospel, Soul, Dance, Disco, Trap, R&B.. the list goes on. I wished she'll do what Butterfly and TEOM did-update her sound. You can see that she's really lax when it comes to her craft these days. She proved her worth but I just want her to keep churning out those #1's cause she deserve to keep her record. I don't want her to tarnish her legacy. These gowns and glam shots video look tired, I want her to advance more as an artist, polish her image even more. Yes, the video has over 2 million views...in two days. That's nothing these days. And only 40k likes in 2 days is even more disappointing. Gaga got that within a few hours of MR being released and she didn't have anywhere near that number of dislikes either. Mariah's likes/dislikes ratio is shocking. You are clearly a very biased fan if you think this is something awesome. I do a YouTube music video stats thread and can confirm that Mariah is less than 1k dislikes away from having this be her #5 most disliked video of all time, only 2k dislikes off #4 and looks set to rise. And it's already her most overall disliked video by like/dislike ratio. And I'm not saying that she's necessarily off key just that the song is written in a way that sounds like you're off key, even if you are in key. That's the sign of a badly written song. Yes, she has altered her sound little by little over the years, but not enough to warrant a reinvention. And Glitter doesn't count, that was for a movie. Her new stuff just doesn't cut it (though I wasn't too much a fan of her old work either, but it was better than this). Her last album was ok, all things considered, but the overall quality just isn't there anymore. I wish she'd make songs like #Beautiful, that song was really good and she should have just released the album at that point, as the song went to #15 which is awesome for her. It's been her highest peaking Song on iTunes since Obsessed... Mariahs own most disliked Videos don't interest me. Why should I or anyone else focus on the negativity? It still has way more likes. So, the dislikes don't make an important point. You're using your opinion that it's a bad written song like a fact. The 'overall' quality is there. She's not interested in reinventing and taking a sudden and crazy direction. Why would she need to? She's making those Singles for fun and for her fans. That's what makes her happy. She wants to release more Music and more Singles throughout the year, maybe then again something makes you happy. She broke her arm in the middle of the #B Promotion (while she wanted to film a remix Video) and after she rested, she divorced from Nick - it has nothing to do with her wanting or needing to get a hit single. If that was the case, she wouldn't have released Infinity. She's literally doing what she likes. She's been in the Studio with her kids the other day and recorded a Song with them that she maybe releases soon. Mariah knows that her music isn't selling as well and that the Industry changed. She is not even interested in doing Promotion for 'I Don't'. I mean, some artists don't change a single damn thing and they're still unbelievably successful from beginning to end, it's just how it is. Not to mention reinvention in itself can often cause an artist to flop. Mariah has reinvented her sound plenty of times over the years to the point where her albums are distinguishable but not enough to where she isolates some fans, and that's respectable and a smart way to go. I think Mariah's success is usually determined by the current press surrounding her and the amount of promotion she does.
