Shadow 6,632
Y'all are terrible, what if Gaga said the same thing? Give Sam a break... Do your own research.
Schwerk 7,252
I feel bad for him honestly. I can't imagine the pressure he must feel. First living up to the massive success of his debut, dealing with all the negative criticism on WOTW, not feeling good about the Oscar performance, maybe thinking at first it wouldn't matter that much because Gaga was everyone's fav, but then winning from his idol in front of an audience in disbelief. Yes he won, but it wasn't a fun win, and I feel for him, I really do. He's just a yough guy, this is all going so fast, it's a lot to deal with. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch
Runway 27,876
These young popstars just don't have what it takes Gaga at 22 made you feel like she had been around for decades bc of her confidence. Kween

The performance hasn't been uploaded to his Vevo channel (despite Gaga and The Weeknd putting theirs up and they lost) and the Oscar highlights didn't include his performance, yet included the loser's performances. Very odd, wouldn't you say? By the looks of it, the academy is majorly regretting their decision to let him win. I hope this means they rethink their strategy next year and actually listen to all the songs before voting. I think this only proves that he wasn't the best choice for the song. Bond themes require confident singers with powerful voices. Personally, I've always found his voice papery thin and weak at the best of times (it's beyond me why some people call him soulful) and his falsetto is very prone to failure and is certainly not to everyone's taste. He's the kind of singer who I really imagine nerves getting to. His whole personality has always had an air of nervousness about it. I think that's why the public didn't accept the theme with open arms. They found it too vulnerable, not confident enough. It's actually a solid song and maybe more people could have seen that had a different performer, one with more experience and confidence, sang it instead. I dislike the franchise's method of selecting who's going to do the theme - picking the most popular singer at the time. It makes no sense. Not everyone at the top of the charts has the chops for a Bond theme in many respects. Sometimes, choosing someone who's not the most popular but fits the bill is a better choice. Muse were a massive contender for the Skyfall theme and the song that they wrote (before it became Skyfall) was Supremacy and I love it, check it out. Adele's is excellent too, but this would have been just as awesome. Radiohead were apparently another contender for Spectre. But neither of these acts were the biggest at the time, so they missed out. I think it's sad that an act who actually could do the theme justice is flung aside just because they weren't popular enough. I think he's changed a lot since his weight loss. He's notably more confident now (maybe becoming thinner gave him a boost?) The way he swore in his backstage interview after winning was certainly out of character from the Sam Smith who broke onto the scene in 2014. I don't know about drugs but he's certainly changed, personality-wise, since his transformation. Maybe it's genuine or maybe it's a front to get through the fame. I can understand why the 007 franchise chooses the most popular singer at the time the film is set to be released. It's understandable, movies are about business too, collaborating with these singers boosts the popularity of the film and not everyone popular is weak, there are some singers who are actually popular and skillful at the same time. I hope they consider Gaga for the next Bond theme, with that saying, she HAS to be popular though. Also since Daniel is not playing the role anymore, hopefully i get a chance to see current favorite candidate Tom Hardy and Gaga meet. Tbh, I like Writing's On The Wall, but yeah that was a bad performance. I don't think the song is that bad actually. In fact I like it better than Skyfall. Demon Of Razgriz 57
Never saw the performance but I really like Writings on the Wall, It's my second favorite Bond theme! I think it deserved to win. edgy 6,918
I remember checking Gold Derby that night before too to see the predictions and Sam had only 5% of winning.
DietCoke 386
Queen of being the first gay man to win an oscar and hate his performance of that same song that he did only a couple hours before. When will our fave?

Stop being harsh on him. kinda ironic you used that gif because he was as bad as Idina Menzel performance of Let it go on the Academy Awards...and it's even more ironic because she hated her own performance too (she even was like really ashamed at the end)

Kween THIS!!!! ... Gaga was full of confidence even when she started. In her first VMA performance she slayed.. yes, she used live autotune (I still don't know why since she had a good voice even back then) but still made a powerful performance. Sam sounds so weak in the album and even weaker live ...but he's gonna do it better
TimisaMonster 31,073
I agree...I'm sure he's also heard the backlash of him winning over Gaga...that must suck but I think even he knows she should've won. Plus, comparing both performances Gaga's had emotion and an IMPACT on the entire theater! Sam...yeah his swaying back and forth, awkwardly staring down the audience, and singing lethargically...it was a terrible performance. Yet his nor her performance changes the already voted on category...he was gonna win anyways. The Oscar that got away... Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify!
