Who ****ing cares what people think? It's the right thing to do. He was an icon. No matter what, The Grammy's will tribute him. I think it would be more embarrassing for Gaga if she were to be sitting in the audience watching some pop star like Bieber or Katy try and tribute him when she STUDIED the man. In the 70's there was the glamorized "baby groupies", girls in their mid-teens hanging around (and having sex) with rock stars such as Bowie, Page,... It's Lori Maddox who claimed she was devirginized by David Bowie when she was 14. She wànted to have sex with him though, but obviously for a lot of people it's rape and that's final. Which is not that crazy. If it happened today the world would be on fire. Don't know anything about racism.

I mean she holds so much respect and adoration for him. That "quote" was from a secondhand source and could have been ripped out of context. It's so vague. And Bowie was a very awkward speaker actually. I doubt he had any ill will. You have to understand he was a complex artist who saw thousands of people name drop him as an influence. That quote was taken when she was relatively new and he didn't really seem like someone who kept up with the pop Zeitgeist. I watched a documentary on him once and in the 70s he randomly moved to a shot apartment in Russia for six years and closed himself off from society to write three albums. Even though we know Gaga loved him, it's quite possible he didn't realize that at the time.
Didymus 34,379
@PartySick His racism accusation seems to come from this: Speaking as The Thin White Duke, Bowie's persona at the time, and "at least partially tongue-in-cheek", he made statements that expressed support for fascism and perceived admiration for Adolf Hitler in interviews with Playboy, NME and a Swedish publication. Bowie was quoted as saying: "Britain is ready for a fascist leader... I think Britain could benefit from a fascist leader. After all, fascism is really nationalism... I believe very strongly in fascism, people have always responded with greater efficiency under a regimental leadership." He was also quoted as saying: "Adolf Hitler was one of the first rock stars" and "You've got to have an extreme right front come up and sweep everything off its feet and tidy everything up." Bowie later retracted these comments and blamed them on mental instability caused by his drug problems at the time, saying: "I was out of my mind, totally, completely crazed." (Wikipedia) What a mess I don't even know what to say to that except that it's...awkward...he was "out of his mind" though, I guess. Thanks for the info I'm glad people are focusing on the positives more. Hell, even John Lennon was a wife beater. I'm sure we can pardon the man of a few sins, instead appreciating his impact and legacy of creativity and freedom. 1 minute ago, ARTPOPdidntflop said: I'm obviously sorry that he's passed, but I'm not going to put him on a pedastool and pretend like he's done nothing wrong. david bowie was a pedophile which a lot forget but also remember that he called himself the ‘aryan superman’ and said britain needed another hitler and gave the nazi salute and also made the racist ass squinting eyes in china girl and tbh that entire song is racist af like why are we honestly still talking about david bowie Yeah, Didy informed me. All I can tell ya is stay away from his threads  he did a lot of good too and I like that the good is what's being glorified. There has to be a margin of error when looking at what a high rock star said nearly five ****ing decades ago. You're looking at things with presentism. I'm sure there are things we say all the time that are accepted now because we haven't gotten to perfect understanding yet but will be looked at as "shaky" and "offensive in 2070. It doesn't mean our intentions are driven by hatred. Your opinion suggests people or cultures don't evolve and that we should pretty much focus on the flaws of the past rather than learn and accept them. No one is perfect. P.S. all those rape allegations are allegations. And because the man is dead and there is no literal proof you should have kept your horribly worded and terribly timed opinion to yourself. And John Lennon were doing tons of domestic violence against women, and to his first wife and emotionally abused his son. And they are dead, people bury the hatchet, and celebrated them, and rightly so, because they made mean music. It is your choice to judge him the way you do of course, but give space to people who wanted to mourns for him if you please.
