As for TEOG, it was just a positive response to the song, and the song means a lot to Gaga so yeah, she was probably fine with it becoming a single at that point. ARTPOP was a crazy era as she said and DWUW was the only song that got to no 1 with the help of preorders if I remmember correctly. Even if she says music, not the bling, it is easy to see that she was hungry for some succes. DWUW made her life easier for one day, so it is easy to see Gaga embrace it for that. Of course it was a crazy era, but when DWUW came out, things weren't THAT bad... ARTPOP had pre-orders, Applause was a TOP 5 hit, and things were going well in a nice direction I guess.. I remember Gaga changing every picture to Venus cover, and she was hyping that song the most. I think it's her favorite from ARTPOP because it's entirely hers - the production, the lyrics.. And she was super excited about the performance of Venus on the X Factor, the first performance of that song as a single. And then her team forced her to release DWUW and of course, she had to perform it on the X Factor and do Venus just as an introduction. Which ever song was the first promo single would have been turned into the second single. None of the songs weren't going to #1 on iTunes, and Gaga/Interscope didn't seem to know that. I remmember that story where Gaga said that she fight for Alejandro to be a single. Im pretty sure that if she wanted Venus, she would have got it.
