It's been 33 years since Madonna's very first album debuted (on July 27, 1983)

Some fast facts about the album:

:diane: The album entered the Billboard 200 in September 1983 at #190, and peaked at #8 about a year later (October 20, 1984 - more than a year and a half after its release)

:diane: It sold 2.8 million copies in the US within a year. To date it has sold about 10 million copies worldwide.

:diane: The album spawned five singles -- the most successful being "Holiday" (which was Madonna's first #1 on the US Dance Club Songs chart), "Lucky Star" (which peaked at #4 on the Hot 100), and "Borderline" (which peaked at #10 on the Hot 100)

:diane: Madonna has sole writing credits for 5 out of the 8 songs on the album ("Lucky Star", "Burning Up", "I Know It", "Think of Me", and "Everybody")

:diane: "Critics have retrospectively noted that the album helped popularize dance music in the mainstream recording industry"

which Gaga did again 25 years later :diane:

"It pointed the direction for numerous female artists of the 1980s and set the standard for dance-pop for decades afterward."

It's an iconic album for sure! My favorite songs are Holiday and Burnin' Up.

Holiday was amazing at the Rebel Heart Tour. Perfect ending :diane:
