Nicki Minaj announced that she will not drop her upcoming studio album Pink Friday 2 on her rescheduled date as planned. Minaj went live on Instagram and explained that she made the decision to push the release date awhile ago due to shipping issues for the vinyl copies of her album. “We ended up not being able to get the vinyls in time for first week, and they were actually available for December 1st, the following week,” Minaj explained. “So, I chose between December 1st and my birthday, and I chose my birthday.” Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday 2 will now arrive on her birthday, December 8. The project was originally set to drop on October 20 but she pushed the album back when she announced the album title over the summer. She set the new date for November 17, which is also the same day that Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz are dropping their joint album Welcome 2 ColleGrove. so i’m high listening to joanne and i started thinking about it and i wrote this post, i guess this is what an english major does while high LOL but as someone who was only in 7th grade when this album came out and has always loved it, i feel like i’m just now truly understanding it. diamond heart + a-yo the opening tracks detail lady gaga’s rise to fame and her life experiences. they talk about her comeup and her struggles in pursuing a career in music. it paints a picture of how hungry she was for fame. joanne this song would be better placed as the albums opener as it fits the role better. the first meaning of the song is mourning and moving on from her aunt’s death and the effect it had on her family. the second meaning is about letting go, realizing how short life is and to make the best of what we have instead of holding onto something that’s gone. she’s going to go in a different direction, something she delves into again later on sinner’s prayer. her having to go in a different direction is probably because of her hip injury and fibromyalgia, which is further supported by five foot two john wayne + dancin in circles these songs build off of what a-yo was saying, just describing the beginning of her career what she stood for back then perfect illusion the suffering she went through during ARTPOP era making her realize that she was surrounded by fake people who didn’t really love her and betrayed her. she expresses her anger in this song, as well as its accompanying music video, reminiscent of how she felt during the ARTPOP era. million reasons once she was alone, she had to find herself again. everyone called her a flop, her fans and friends betrayed and belittled her. she had a million reasons to quit being a pop star but she just needed one, her fans, to stay. this is expressed in the music video as well. sinner’s prayer revisiting the idea of gaga going in a new direction due to her injury and her clear inability to continue down her original path, evident in the ARTPOP era, sinner’s prayer tells about gaga’s honesty in saying she knows people will be put off by her change but she is who she is and she just wants her fans to accept her and she doesn’t want to break their hearts. come to mama + hey girl + angel down gaga begins to talk about her new purpose and perspective for her career, spreading love and kindess and being involved in politics. this is further evident by her later work with joe biden and emphasis on kindness. come to mama and hey girl talk about uplifting and being kind to one another. angel down talks about the age of social media and how it has made us become self-absorbed, desensitized, and less inclined to fighting for social and political issues. gaga shows her fans that she is now going to focus on these things now throughout the future of her career and that she can’t be the same pop star she once was.

Not many artists can recover from a situation like ARTPOP to get nominated for multiple Oscars and double their Grammy wins. She definitely is someone with a plan.

As nice as this all sounds, I hate to burst the bubble but I sometimes think Madonna's fascination with Britney over all the other young females that were big at the time was very telling. Britney was being called the princess of pop, so that suggested she was a direct successor to Madonna's queen of pop title. But Madonna realised that Britney was no threat to her as she was clearly so heavily controlled and wasn't super involved in her own career. Therefore, she was a very safe choice to mentor, there's a lot she could be taught. You'll notice that even though she also did the VMAs performance with Christina, she never attempted to mentor her. Because Christina was too much of a rebel and knew her own mind, therefore, too similar to Madonna and not as easy to mentor. And I think Madonna just jumped at the chance to be in Me Against The Music because it was a collab with one of the biggest names of the moment and this was the point in her career where she became focused on associating with current names to be considered cool by association. If she was so close to Britney and understood her, then why did she collab with her ex, Justin, on 4 Minutes? She was also on Letterman and referenced how she gave him her underwear years ago and said "maybe you could send them to Britney." And I can't remember where she said it or why, but she once said that Britney was "built like a brick sh*thouse." It was in that moment that I questioned Madonna's involvement in Britney's life. It just screamed "PR relationship" but sadly, I don't think Britney was so vulnerable and in need of a support network that she couldn't see that. When was the last time she was involved in Britney's life? Years ago. She certainly wasn't at her wedding. I think when Britney's social standing fell, Madonna no longer had interest in her as she couldn't give her anything. I know, it's super cynical and I don't want to think this is the case but Madonna has a reputation for using young singers for their cool name and star power in order to get some success and positive association for herself for too long now. I think Britney was just one of the first ones. And it definitely explains why she never showed love to Gaga. Far too similar, far too talented, far too in control and knew her own mind. I also think she was someone she genuinely saw as a threat and feared she could get on her level one day. I think Gaga realised that too and that's why she gave her a wide berth early on. I'm glad she had the pride not to bow down to the woman who made fun of her on her tour by singing a Express Yourself/BTW mash-up followed by She's Not Me. Madonna started it and her alone. I really don't think Gaga was getting any fun out of it. I certainly wouldn't have wanted the stress of a legend getting on my case so early in my career when it was already stressful enough. The fact Madonna couldn't respect that or draw parallels to when she was breaking out says a lot. You'll notice Madonna has never been particularly supportive of other females in the industry. She prefers to collab with men and she's said nasty things about other females over the years (and not all of them singers either). She's clearly felt very threatened by other women before, always fearing they'll be as big as her or bigger one day and overthrow her queen of pop title. I know a lot of Gaga fans have moved on from those days but I just can't. Same for M.I.A, Joanna Newsom, Grace Jones and all those other females singers who were clearly jealous of Gaga and couldn't support the sisterhood.
