That's not quite true. Plenty of critics mentions those things, just usually negatively and with unquestioned incredulity that any of it could be meaningful.

 

I should clarify. My point is that the majority of critics will view performances and video as secondary to the music and therefore won't invest much energy into a--lyzing them. That's the way we've basically been conditioned to view visual pop performances- more like "complements" done solely for entertainment, and not something really all that important to make sense of.
