You all do realize that out of her 12 studio albums, only 4 of Madonnas albums have debuted at #1, correct?

Part of that is just structural. She dates back to before the Soundscan era, and back then, albums never debuted at number one.

However, you've pointed to a deeper truth: During long stretches of her "reign", Madonna was far from the most successful artist of the year; she was always kind of in the top tier, but at any given moment, she could be greatly eclipsed by others, who made a big splash... and then, usually, disappeared as quickly as they'd arrived. While she kept plugging away. That's the real key to her success. Gaga can surely do the same.

So are the real numbers out now? 250k for ARTPOP?
