These critics are looking far too hard for art references and samples in the songs rather than looking at the songs as art pieces themselves  :smh:

To any critic struggling to find the art form;

1) Take any basic pop album in the top 100 at the moment

2) Play it against ARTPOP

3) Compare the quality of the songs, and the actual creative input of the artist vs Gaga on each song.

4) Do research, look at how Gaga presents the song (performances, videos etc) and compare to the other artist.

5) You've found the art.  :nails:

Yeah everyone so far has been saying she gets the Pop part of ARTPOP right, but not the art...i disagree but what do i know? :roll:

I honestly kinda agree. Apart from songs like Arptop, DWUW and maybe Applause I don't see what songs represent "the soup can controlling commercialism" like she said.

The main problem is that ART IS SUBJECTIVE--meaning someone might find something like PRISM more artistic than ARTPOP. Just because someone calls something artistic doesn't mean it automatically going to be perceived as art. I get that gaga has the app, and is known for her fashion and being incredible with her live performances, but when you listen to the just the music (which is what it all boils down too) I personally don't see the 'art' aspect to be honest, other than her blending/exploring new genres, which isn't something new (l.a.m.b., the duchess, etc). The (pretentious) ARTPOP concept, for me musically, falls flat.

Just because it's satire, doesn't mean the lyrics are good.

I think they're good for a fun song. But that brings us to the realm of opinions and this review is nothing more than one

I think reviewers are taking the art concept way too literally.

I don't think so at all. I think Gaga touted the art concept way too much. She promotes it as a reverse warholian, giving art to the masses. But it's all just pop lol. I mean I like the album, because it's not art and it doesn't require a beginning to end listen like she said

except if she made it art the way you're thinking then there would be no masses to consume it.
Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

if everyone is giving ARTPOP an average rating they must have a point. I'm not blind, the album is cute but nothing that special. inconsistent as ****, and the concept is barely seen in the actual music, which is what is really going to matter at the end of the day.

This tbh. It's a seriously average album, especially coming from someone like Gaga who has proven herself time and time again in the past. Especially for how long she's supposedly been working on it, it comes off as lazy to me. And there's not a single track that pops out at me as mindblowingly great (I love Venus, and MANiCURE and Fashion! are fun and catchy, but def lack a certain "wow" factor). And additionally, it should not have been named "ARTPOP". The song ARTPOP does  nothing to crystalize what she's trying to get at, her name dropping Jeff Koons is pretty lame, and watching her attempt to explain the concept (something about a soup can) was kind of embarrassing. It'd be better if she was being ironic about it, but she's apparently taking it extremely seriously. No bueno

This era has been quiet a disappointment to me.. i hope the app and the "experience" changes my mind

That is likely true, I think the ARTPOP concept, if properly and fully executed, would not be mainstream. Which raises the question, should an artist be willing to sacrifice for their work if it really means so much to them?
