Queer country artists deserve better than this statement

That's a fruitless labor, sorry to say

I don’t have an emoji react apt enough for this.  I will continue to believe all efforts to be inclusive are worth it and not “fruitless”

Way too extreme

Is it though? You may listen to some of the artists, and that's your rights, but doesn't change the fact Nashville don't want POC and LGBTQ people nearby. They have historically maintained systemic barriers, cultural biases, and visible resistance toward inclusive representation

And what does that have to do with queer people continuing to work in the genre? Genuinely don’t understand why certain institutional gatekeepers should prevent people from making the music they want to make or for people who enjoy music by those marginalized artists making that music from listening to it lol. This would be like telling Freddie Mercury not to work in rock because rock was institutionally homophobic.

I don't like the way this is phrased 'cause regardless of her personal experience with the genre, the fact that it has its roots in black American culture is absolutely fact :partysick:

Unsurprising to see something like that said about Beyonce/black artists on GGD, I fear.

Except the entire basket is the rotten ones with maybe one or two good apples in it?

I actually did a deep dive on American accents a little while back and found out a lot of the generic southern drawl can trace its phonetic roots to parts of Ireland, poorer parts of the UK, and West Africa.

Makes it so ironic when southerners are racist 'cause they're literally listening to African music and speaking in the grandchild of African dialects :ladyhaha:
