I wish she released her concert films closer to the end of the run when there is still hype. I feel many other artists do this successfully I’m not sure what the strategic reason is for these delays. Hopefully this rumor is true, or at least the film comes sooner than we had to wait for TCB

A lot of the times artists like to record towards the end of the tour where details have been fully ironed and set in stone (plus any difference or changes made on the run are added; like new songs that were not performed before and such), and editing a full show can take at least 2 months with a full editing team. Plus there's also a lot of planning and negotiation with the streaming house that will release it, getting all the needed licenses in all territories where it will be available, etc. They can also persuade for certain dates to boost subscriptions, or sometimes the artist uses the film to promote something at a specific date (Like how Harlequin Live was released a year later but close to grammy voring period). The only time I have seen an artist pump out a concert film in 2 months was The Eras Tour, but its not the typical scenario

Madonna also takes a long time for her concert films, usually 1 to 2 years have always been the time since the Confessions Tour. Kylie was fast with the audio release of the Tension Tour, but the visual took a few months.

When the tour finishes the hype is still fresh, but waiting some time could stretch out the era a bit more and bring back at least a bit of hype to the album. Just like Billie with the HMHAS tour film release.

You could also use this to fill the gap before a new album is released. Otherwise the drought until the next album might even be longer

Are people really doubting she will release it? She gave out formal invitations to fans already, there is just no date yet

Be a fan of Taylor instead if you’re so frustrated? Like idk, Gaga filmed multiple dates for this, it’s pretty clearly happening but may take time, which may not - and probably isn’t - entirely in her control. Patience is a virtue.

To be fair, let’s look at the shows Gaga hasn’t released:

—Fame Ball: She wasn’t a big enough artist to have a concert film.

—Monsterball 1.0: Gaga rushed this tour together and it was later improved up, which was released.

—BTWB: Filming likely scheduled for shows that were canceled.

—artRAVE: Instead of a film, we got a livestream of the final show. For me this counts.

—Joanne: I’ve long speculated that filming the last two shows was more for promo footage than a concert film release. It’s also been speculated the concert film was supposed to be filmed at a date they thought might be canceled, so I think they shot those shows as a back-up.

—Enigma: Ended early due to COVID, but is anyone really complaining about this one?

—Jazz & Piano: It’s not Gaga’s own music, and she has so many other high quality Jazz recordings.

Can we be disappointed as a fanbase that we didn’t get more films? Yes. Do I think we have the right to be angry that Gaga didn’t record/release more? Absolutely not.

Plus, Gaga filming The Chromatica Ball (such a short tour that is far from her best) shows that she clearly wanted to do more. She even filmed The Mayhem Ball after we already got three high-quality streams of the original show.

Ultimately, I think she really didn't feel comfortable sharing that recording. From memory there were a couple of stage malfunctions and we also know her health was not in a good place.

Totally agree with all of this. I’d be very, very surprised if a Mayhem Ball tour film wasn’t released at some point. It’s likely in editing stage, and if it is gonna be distributed by HBO then they have their own schedule which will need to align with Gaga’s for promo. This delay doesn’t mean much at all tbh.

Can confirm the filming in Birmingham was a last minute decision because the week before, I got an email off LiveNation to inform us our date (the cancelled London one after Birmingham, that was also a rescheduled one) was going to be filmed.

From what we can gather the footage wasn’t up-to scratch and I remember seeing a lot of people posting online that there was a LOT of technical difficulties and restarts at Birmingham mostly to do with the platform lifts. She was probably scrambling to film it before she cancelled because it was not long after when I was travelling down the day before she announced the tour was cancelled.

I know this is (semi!) delusional but ugh I would love for her to adapt the concept of the Mayhem concert into a musical and win a Tony as a writer or producer

a boy can dream

I don’t think she can considering the show itself is inspired by Phantom of The Opera anyway.

ugh you’re probably right. too derivative as-is. it would need significant changes

I guess I’ll just wait for the concert film then 😅

I don’t even plan on this ever releasing. She only released two out of her 6 major tours after the fame ball

meanwhile Taylor fans have gotten every. single. tour.  Must be nice

I mean this just isnt even true.

The Fearless tour never got a full concert film just a bts clip film.

The Red tour film never saw the light of day. I believe it was filmed by Terry Richardson...

The 1989 tour film was digital only for Apple Music and is now lost media having been removed from streaming in 2020. Its been unavailable longer than it was available.

The Rep tour film was digital only on Netflix and since 2023 is officially lost media.

There's only 2 tours with full recordings still available. Speak Now World tour which got a physical release, and the 2 Eras tour films on Disney+.
