i don’t know how to feel about this vintage white trash but glamorous Americana aesthetic she’s got going on with this album though

she's leaning into the midwest white trash aesthetic that she grew up around in St. Louis

Its a club album.

Its supposed to be aesthetic over substance. The only relevant substance is c*ke.

girl a club album can still have substance (Brat & Eusexua are good examples)

I do kind of agree that there's not much lyrically here but the production is soooooooo good

i dont love the album as a whole (a bit front-loaded & the tracklisting is not great) but the project as a whole (visuals included) it's really strong.

I mean aye but they don't have to, and its not the standard for the genre.

Its electro-sleaze (which Brat & Eusexua are not). She's recreated it perfectly and centered it within her own stylistic approach.

Electro-sleaze was never about lyrical substance. It was explicit, ironic & dumb ass DIY tracks centered in hedonistic nightlife.

It has way more in common with Fischerspooner, Princess Superstar, Hi-Fashion and OG era Scissor Sisters tracks like Electrobix than it does with Charli XCX's Brat.

Lyrical substance would have actively removed it from the style of music Slayyyter was referencing and recreating in her own discography.

Ever since BUC$ I’ve been a Stan. Just obsessed with this album and the entire rollout.

The production reminds me of 2008/9, sounds from Justice, Crystal Castles, and even Does it Offend You, Yeah? I was getting heavily into electronic music at the time (Gaga included!) so it’s very nostalgic while still fresh.

I love Slayyyters delivery on so many tracks, Gas Station was an instant favorite. IAKF is so cunty. $t. Loser her background growl :oohrightthereyeah: 10/10.

Going to watch her Coachella set and can’t wait to see her at Lollapalooza!

I'm not sure if this was already posted, but Slayyyter crafted this record with the possibility of it being her last. Granted, artists say this all the time, and she just got signed to Columbia. Whether or not she goes back in to record another record, I think the fact that she created such a compelling, maximalist, and thrilling record as a "final statement" of sorts, while also outpeaking herself creatively and sonically, is such an achievement. I really never thought she'd put out such a statement record like this.

Anyways...stream it!!!

If people want something similar to this album, this was also released on same day and is fun, not as diverse but :lolly:

I've listened a few times (not the singles since I've overplayed them to hell and back) and just been re-listening and re-affirming my faves. My big stand-outs are Beat Up Chanels, Crank, Yes Goddd, St Loser and Brittany Murphy. But all the other ones are decent-above average and the only one I didn't like is Old Flings which I felt didn't fit the project at all. But only one bad one is outstanding. She really went outside her boundaries and created something more vulnerable and personal and I'm curious as to how an extended release will shape up seeing as it's confirmed now. I just wish the videos had been a bit...more and that they didn't re-use footage from Dance. But seeing as she's just been signed and likely hasn't been given a massive budget, this is a good start. Clearly, the focus went on the singles. Honestly, I've only just become a fan, I'd heard her back in the day but that work didn't do much for me and I've still got to listen to Starf***er. So, it'll be like a double album experience for me now!

omg how did I totally forget about Does It Offend You, Yeah? I was obsessed with Crystal Castles too and got to meet Alice after one of their shows. And when Gaga debuted it was like my whole school was talking about her overnight. This album definitely takes me back to that era, I love it. I’ll probably go see Slayyyter when she comes to my city.

Yeah!! Slayyyter just did that interview where she named Santigold, MIA, and Kid Cudi as influences on the record. Such a great time in music and this album would fit right in.

Let’s Make Out and With a Heavy Heart still slaps!!!!

actually it has a lot of deep and interesting lyrics about suic*de, one side beefs, paranoia, being left by your father...

I love how in your face this album is. It's bold, but not in a rude way, more in a "this is me and what are you going to do about it. Like it or gtfo" way.

At moments like these, I wish I were taking drugs. Because this album was made for that but I'm a good girl
