Jack White says ‘Taylor Swift way’ of writing break-up songs is ‘boring’

Taylor herself knew that. That’s why she went to Lana Del Rey way of writing for folklore and she got critical acclaim. Then she overdid it so much caricaturized it in a way that she released TTPD.

She said she wrote Brown Eyes about a hugely successful rockstar she used to date. Rob Fusari is… not that

but she also said she wrote Perfect Illusion about Instagram being full of illusions, so who knows :ladyhaha:

Fusari is under the impression that it was written about him, that's why I say that :bear:

Some OG stans would have to comment on that though, I never dug too deep into her personal life to begin with, let alone the stuff that happened before I really stanned

Ugh, Jack White needs to keep women artists’ names out of his mouth. I’m no Taylor fan, and I love much of Jack’s music, but he’s so pretentious and always has been.

He’s been critical of Gaga in the past, saying she’s too theatrical and relies too much on gimmicks, or some such uninformed nonsense, and it pisses me off.

I chalk this up to The Patriarchy. People are allowed to make boring art however they want. Maybe Taylor’s music isn’t for him. 👀 But hetero men seem to think everything should be for them.

I’m usually on the side of fighting the Patriarchy but I also hate this new trend of illusory correlation where any criticism of women in pop is quickly summed up to sexism.

You might not like Jack White but he has dogged PLENTY of men throughout his career and been pretty heavy on artist like Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendez, and other male pop stars before.

if we lambast every single heterosexual man every time they are critical of art then we risk entering the Credibility Trap, where we sabotage our own movements against patriarchy because we are being lazy about our accusations.

you don’t have to like the guy but I don’t think this is sexist. He is clocking a very real trend in pop music that even gay and trans people often say about Taylor Swift…

that's quite interesting to hear, i'd like to see gaga's perspective on this since she's an artist who regularly releases music that's autobiographical about her struggles, relationships, physical pain and trauma despite being a very private person...

i wonder what she feels listening/singing Y&I or music from Joanne (or Speechless) in regards to her family... and since she quite boldly proclaimed her love for michael with BOG, how will she feel about it 10 years from now?

I believe she said before singing BN at Mayhem that she gives her songs new meanings to her as time evolves. Like I feel like she associates a lot of the songs with memories of the fandom (You & I SPECIFICALLY feels more about the fans because of TMB performance), BN for example she played it in the city that infamously made her sing it at artRAVE so I doubt she was thinking about Luc at all.

Although I often think in hindsight these songs show her growth in relationships, BoG feels more poetic and less “you’re my everything” than Y&I and BN (I imagine Taylor wasn’t pleased when she made an entire song saying she basically considered one last affair with her ex whilst they were together wasn’t a good one skdhdjd)

Ahahah, I was about to write the same. I've never heard of him tho, so I guess he's just one frustrated little white man who can't handle a woman's economic success. :vegas::ladyhaha:

Hit the nail on the head. Claiming every critique of a woman is misogyny without basis is borderline thought terminating cliche territory.

Okay, I still don't know him? 🥲

my country only reunified 37 years ago and the internet was brought to the east in 2019. This is a very sensitive topic for me and it's kinda rude of you to assume assumptions. :bye:

Controversiaga

This is the kinda thing that’s okay to THINK and BELIEVE, but not really okay to say out loud when you’re a famous man

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”
