He’s aging like milk and his music is mid. Why is he still famous?

I think it’s all perspective, I think he still looks good personally and Aperture is a good evolution sonically for him.

the funny thing is, he's arguably bigger in the UK than Gaga is and his tickets still aren't close to what hers or Beyonce's were pre-scalp. So his fans should count themselves lucky lmao

The smh'ing I've been doing lately reading Gaga stans of all people trying to flame an artist for high ticket prices :messga:

They're both so wrong for it lmao

Id say so, he’s a UK artist and every time he releases music we eat it up. Gaga’s only hits over here over the last 5 years hqve been DWAS and ROM really. Abra did well still but like I said Harry’s a home grown artist and from One Direction who were arguably bigger than Gaga in terms of rabid fanbase

That’s fascinating just bc I know Gaga has much bigger international appeal than she does domestic so that’s a cool insight

She definitely is still a big artist here but we go nuts for actual UK acts over here, I’d argue sales aside people like Harry, Raye, Charli and also in some degree Jade are bigger/becoming bigger than her.

But don’t get me wrong she still has 2 diamond singles (which is hard over here) and we only have 84 all together, she’s 1 of like 10 artists who have multiple diamond singles. And has like 7 number 1 singles over here. But that’s in 20 years almost, most of those artists have almost the same amount of hits in half the time.

If I remember rightly her biggest market is Japan, she’s the best selling western act of all time over there. Japanese fans go WILD

I get what this is trying to achieve but wow, this is a bit of a slap in the face for those who bought full-price London tickets, especially for those who aren't from London and will have travel and hotel costs on top of a high ticket price. And it's one night only. If this were a true attempt at damage control, he'd be doing 10 shows with £20 tickets. This is just a bone thrown at poorer fans, nothing more. I imagine it'll be a the cause of a lot of angry parents who wished they'd never caved to buy their daughter tickets that'll cause her to have to travel and take a day off school...

You just need to look at the UK stadium attendance of his last tour. The Brits love a local act and he's still coasting on 1D fangirls as well. The biggest UK names are usually always the highest earners on the UK tour circuit, especially recently with Coldplay, Oasis, Ed Sheeran...the only real exception to this is Beyonce and Taylor and even they get eclipsed by most of the male acts.

DWAS, Disease, Abra, The Dead Dance, ROM, Stupid Love all were in the top 10 in the UK (in fact all top 7+). The only song that performed better in the US than it did in the UK was DWAS (which only hit number 2 in the UK). So… quite a few more hits than DWAS and ROM in the UK.

Also, in total album units sales Gaga has outsold Harry Styles and One Direction put together there - plus your other examples of UK acts don’t quite match up either. Charli’s not outselling Gaga. Brat is her best selling album there w/ about 200 k units and her only song that performed as well or better than any of the aforementioned Gaga singles from the last five years is Guess w/Billie.

I meant more about who is bigger with the british public not who sells more bc Sales =/= Relevancy, my point still stands as a British person i can tell you we like British artists more. I love Gaga but she's absolutely not bigger in a short space of time than any of the UK artists i've mentioned.

Ask anybody in the UK to name Gaga's last songs they remember, they'll absolutely say DWAS, ROM and then something from TFM or BTW. TDD peaked because of Wednesday, Stupid Love because it was the lead single and on radio a lot at the time here and Abra is sort of coasting along. The easiest way beyond virality to get a hit in the UK is; be on talk shows, be on popular tv show soundtracks, do our festival circuits like Glasto, Creamfields, Leeds Fest, R1 Big Weekend, Summertime Ball etc and also be on radio. We're pretty old school in the sense that Spotify streams alone and TikToks don't always help.

If ur a BBC Radio 1 or Capital favourite you're grand. But R1 notoriously does NOT like older artists, they flat out refused (mostly Scott Mills) to play Madonna when Living For Love came out because she was over 40. This next album era may well be the last time Gaga gets anything from UK radio unless she works with young artists again.
