Here people are thinking it’s a popstar’s job to fix the world.

in 2020 Gaga decided to hold a fundraiser for Covid. You think that happened overnight?? Maybe she wants to be back from touring JAPAN before she can put something into action? Maybe?

So, are YOU dumb?? Do you understand the pedestal you’re putting her on?

lemme grab the Kleenex.

Are you seriously comparing organising a fundraiser to posting a predesigned instagram story?

She doesn't need to be in the US to share basic pre-designed templates on insta with a link to civil rights orgs.

She could have her team do it and all she'd need to do is send them a text asking for it.

I'm not putting her on a pedestal. I don't expect her to fix the world.

What I expect is a woman who made political activism be a defining brand identifier be politically active at the time its most needed.

As I've already said, I am happy she is finally speaking to the times after missing previous key moments.

But this nonsense that she needs time to go "executing peaceful protestors in broad daylight is bad" is ludicrous.

Are you serious? :lmao:

It's called lending their huge platform for more visibility. A cause will need huge visibility to build widespread awareness, secure crucial funding, and drive, mobilize action for social, political, or cultural change. High visibility transforms a niche issue into a mainstream priority, attracting volunteers, donations, and media attention necessary to sustain momentum and legitimacy.

One doesn't need to wait for that. Ariana showing it how easy it is. A little post on tiktok or instagram is enough. Sure, Gaga will be very welcome to do more after that. But in urgency, waiting is not really the option; people are actually dying and displaced out there, Kim!

So my point stands…. You’re crying because she didn’t post a phone number on Instagram.

Change doesn’t happen on Instagram babe.

At least, when Gaga wants to do something impactful, the reach is 95% of the time off of social media.

When you expect things from pop stars, you set yourself up for disappointment. And honestly, it sounds like you’re mostly mad because other pop stars beat her to the punch, when your view of Gaga is “political activist.”

Also you guys don’t need to explain ICE to me or what’s happening. I live in Chicago. I’ve SEEN ICE on the streets. In my neighborhood. I know what’s happening. I know what steps I need to take as a community member to affect change. Id never wait for a pop star to tell me things need to change.

I'm not crying. I'm debating a popstar on a fandom forum about that popstar.

I'm not mad other popstars beat her to the punch.

Change happens everywhere that you can reach someone.

I'm just expressing my disappointment that someone who built their career on speaking up and opposing bigotry took this long to speak up. It feels out of character. And as I've already said, I hope its a sign she's got her voice back and is going to use it.

But as someone who admired her for her politics, like many fans, its perfectly reasonable to question why it took this long.

And now since you think sharing activist produced education resources (a tried and tested method) does nothing.

What are you doing?

So here's a question, are you happy when your fellow community members do nothing?

If so, do you think it was right for Gaga to stay silent when ICE came to California - her community?

Literally stop worrying about what everyone else is doing!! gaga, now me, like girl…

WHAT ARE YOU DOING. I know having a big voice on GGD makes you think you’re helping or taking action.

YOU ARE NOT.

Looking for ways to be more upset? I don’t know the ins and outs of what everyone around me is doing. I focus on what I can do.

I've already said what I'm doing.

I've worked with refugee & asylum seeking children for the last 4 years.

I help them to learn english. I help them to integrate into their community. I'm there when they are in tears because they've been attacked in the street. I'm there when they're age-disputed by border control.

You talk a lot about what others don't need to do. You disparage anyone talking about doing activism. So yeah I'm gonna question what you actually contribute to this?

You clearly think you have a better system than decades old activist tactics. Share it with the world. We've got Nazis to slaughter.

Well the only people I’ve mentioned at length are Gaga and myself. I said Gaga doesn’t need to post a phone number to still be an activist. And I said maybe Gaga is wanting to do something MORE.

never did I say - don’t do anything! So please show me where you got that impression?? We can agree to disagree on how much social media plays a part in this.

I knew she was gonna say something at some point. I was a little scared she wouldn't, but I expected her to.

Sharing contact details for civil rights organisations is important though.

There's a reason every protest has people volunteer as observers who hand this information out.

There's a reason civil rights groups produce this information.

It is a defense tool for activists and at risk communities.

It is a decades old practice going as far back as the civil rights movement.

You see it as worthless. Tell us why. Tell us the alternative.

You keep talking about something. But are ashamed to say what that is.

Why be ashamed? We all want the same end result. If you have better suggestions lets all benefit from it.

Set the example.
