This is Pitchfork we're talking about though, so even when they're praising something it still comes across as shady

Idk that sounds a little bit like some light pop stan derangement toward Pitchfork :ladyhaha:

Gaga is far from the only one they do it to though, Halsey and Lana Del Rey have gotten the same treatment

What I’m saying is I think you’re reading something into this blurb that isn’t there in this case out of a preconceived notion of how you think they view pop stars more broadly.

I understand what you're saying and I could be wrong, it just comes across to me (both in the tweet and the article itself) like those other things are "inconveniences" in her career and the only Gaga that matters is PopGa, when she has elevated her career significantly by expanding her artistry.

It feels like a backhanded compliment though, as if the "jazz belting or the traditional singer-songwriter gravitas or movie stardom" aren't also legitimate parts of her artistry :triggered:

I think you’re reading it wrong lmao. It’s more saying she’s done SO many things that you can almost forget why you fell in love with her in the first place. She’s kinda enigmatic like that. But mayhem is a great reminder that she’s one of the absolute best in pop

They mean that pop music and specifically dark pop is how she started and gained recognitions and mayhem feels like a return to that

Pronounced like “Balenciaga” . Emphasis on the “Ga”
