Stefanotta 1,209
What about Madonna? Wasn’t she rumored to be releasing new album this year? My biggest enemy is me. 1

Cpeer 3,480
It’s all about longevity now. I think a nomination is almost guaranteed, but for any chance of winning she needs to get more hits and keep the momentum till fall/ winter.

There is nothing AOTY worthy about Mayhem. It’s a solid Gaga pop album that has some interesting moments but it’s not memorable enough to be considered as a serious AOTY contender. We are going to have to agree to disagree. It's at 84 on Metacritic and had solid numbers. That's absolutely enough to get a nomination for AOTY. Albums with lower scores and/or less sales have received AOTY nominations. I didn't say she would win, I said Kendrick would, but she absolutely has a very good shot at a nomination considering the a) reviews b) sales and c) lack of competition as most big artists aren't releasing this year. And again, music is subjective. It's fine if you think it's not AOTY worthy, but that's your subjective opinion. If the MC score was under 75, it might be more objective, but right now that's subjective. 7

thetorturedlovers 65
I’m not trying to discredit the critical acclaim or the highly enthusiastic fan reactions. I’m just stating the obvious facts that are working against it and I’m keeping it real (as I am told to be by this very thread)

It’s just not thee AOTY material to me. My AOTY standars are very high, all I said was that I don’t think it’s good enough to be crowned as the #1 greatest album of the year. I stand by that, it’s a standard pop album without the massive commercial success that is expected from a pop album. There’s nothibg about Mayhem that’s so special or undeniable that I would want to honor Gaga and vote for her to win AOTY. It’s not 1989, 25, 24k Magic or Midnights type of huge pop blockbuster 1 8

The only difference they have from Mayhem is that they boast multiple hits. Since Mayhem hasn't even completed a full year yet, we can't definitively say whether it will eventually produce massive hits or not. And Abracadabra is thriving still. While I respect your opinion, I was expecting a more refined and distinctive selection for Album of the Year since you mentioned you have high standards—not just the "standard pop albums" you mentioned. I'm not sure why you brought up Midnight. Edited March 16 by FFXIV WhiteMage 4 1

Because the album is anything but memorable, and it has only one moderate hit and it is far from being one of the best selling albums of the year. Yet, it still won AOTY 4
Zaskar 3,911
I’m sorry but Mayhem has more personality than Midnights or TTPD. Commercial success is different thing though. 1

Exactly! I love TTPD but realistically 90% of the songs sound the same. Same with Midnights. What's so special about the album that got it AOTY? I don't get some people on this forum honestly. The Fame Monster and Born This Way deserved AOTY in their years and didn't get them. We all know there are a lot of politics involved with the Grammy's, but I can say that so far Mayhem is definitely a top 3 contender. 6
