I really loved that movie. Zoe Saldana is a fantastic actress. And Camille did an amazing job with the music. Not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s definitely a vibe.

I can’t take the Oscars seriously anymore  it’s like the weirder & more artistic (just for the sake of being artsy/artistic) it is, the better the chances to win/be nominated

Maybe because people are clever enough not to engage in battles where they know they’ll just hit a wall. Not sure why I went right back into it, I guess I have masochistic tendencies. Or maybe I just don’t like injustice and blinded hatred, especially on a forum that is dear to me. But don’t worry, at this rate, you probably won’t see me around here much longer.

I've debated at length about it in another thread and will keep it brief here: the communities portrayed in the film have all the rights and legitimacy to criticize it, but a majority of the audience and critics are merely responding to the universality and emotion depicted in the movie. I honestly don't think a racist and transphobe filmmaker would sacrifice 4 years of his life developing and making a film about these specific subjects.

This might not be the way you wanted to see this story portrayed, but it turns out a Mexican tale with a trans lead currently has 13 Oscar nominations. Honestly, in the current political climate, yes, I'll gladly take it.
