Robbie was HUGE in the UK and the rest of Europe during the 2000's. His chart run was impressive similar to other huge icons of the 00's such as Eminem, Britney, Black Eyed Peas, Pink etc.

It's kinda weird that his biopic is flopping hard in Europe and especially in his home country, UK :bye: The monkey idea maybe was not right but I'm willing to see it because I'm kinda into the biopic films :bon:

I came here trying to say something positive but after seeing the trailer...

WTF... He was huge in Europe back in the 00s and has some classics, but he didn't really make it in the US, so together with that monkey thing... Who thought that would be a good idea? :madge:

I didn’t know it was out. I think it looks like an interesting take on a biopic.

He wasn’t a big thing in the US. He came out post Spice Girls where there was still a little UK pop hype. I liked his songs when they were released in the US. “Millennium” and “Angels” weren’t big hits or anything but I did buy the “Sing When You’re Winning” album.

Maybe the idea that he felt like a “show monkey” should have been subtle throughout the film, and not the biggest talking point. Maybe he can start off as human then have some monkey tendencies throughout. Then at the end he’s a full on money with the record industry pulling his chain.

Who the heck thought a CGI monkey would be a good idea? :huntyga: Even for an artist I stan I would never be able to take it seriously and would never bother to go watch

exactly my thought. when i first heard this thought the idea was nice. it could be something he transforms himself in or  like hallucinations where he starts to see his reflex as a monkey. so on some scenes becomes one, but it's his point of view not how people see him

The most shocking thing I learnt when this movie came out was finding out that Robbie Williams is practically unknown in the US :duck:

I heard Rock DJ for the first time last week because my fyp was inundated with Brits using it as an example of how great his hits are…mama the charts were dominated by Destiny’s Child, prime Xtina, Santana, and Janet Jackson in 2000. Boy brought a knife to a gun fight. :nooo:

It made 10 million worldwide. I love Robbie’s catalog but I follow British music and he is rather impossible to avoid. Would’ve been cool for America to discover his work but it was a far reach at the same time. No Regrets, Love Supreme, Candy, Angels, Come Undone, Feel, Rock DJ, some many songs that have had major play on my iPod. And I have all his albums imported!

I saw it last week. I loved it. It was super-entertaining with loads of choreographed performances. I have a friend who is a fan so I’ve seen Robbie in concerts a few times and he always jokes about how he is completely unkown in the US.

I think the monkey thing is putting people off in places like the UK where Robbie was big.
Because it is weird.

And of people I've seen who've been their review is "Hear me out okay. The monkey is weird. But the film is fine"

Fine ain't exactly a glowing review

A whole generation of Americans avoided being traumatised by that video, crazy.

Do you feel him sir?

It’s interesting seeing people’s reactions in this thread. It is actually such a great film and probably the most interesting biopic in recent years.

But people assume it’s trash.
