Lady Gaga talks LG7, Coachella and confirms DWAS and Gesaffelstein on the album

Chromatica was submitted at the end of December/beginning of January for an April release. If we're following this pattern, LG7 was probably submitted at the end of October/early November for a February release. The decision to add DWAS probably happened shortly after Disease dropped.

I mean I don't like this decision and plenty of people here have articulated why. She can say that Die With A Smile was included to 'tie the album together', but I find it hard to believe that anybody finds that to be a believable argument. It's a textbook industry tactic. It's like putting your album on sale for $1 and saying it's because of your 'artistic vision'. I don't care if she does it, but I don't like the fact that she's trying to make this out to not be a cash grab, and would rather she just said 'it was more popular than we expected it to be, so decided to include it later' than going on about how 'it always meant to be on the album'.

I don't know, I guess I'm just annoyed that she finally seems to be trying a completely new sound for the first time since ARTPOP, and we're still going to end up with the same old Adult Contemporary ballads tacked on to the end of the album. Die With A Smile isn't bad by any means, but it's hardly new turf for her.

And quite frankly it makes me laugh to see the same people who constantly drag Taylor Swift for being 'money hungry' and 'exploitative' defend this move like their life depends on it. This is no different to the 10 variants, or the bonus tracks, or the voice memos.

Why can't it be both though? That's what I struggle to understand with people who dislike this decision. I think we ALL see that this is a way to boost her album sales; no one is denying that. Had DWAS not been as popular as it is, it probably wouldn't be on the album. That being said, we know almost nothing about the album and its themes, yet people are acting like this is somehow compromising its integrity.

Adding DWAS doesn't negate anything she's said about LG7 so far. She said the album is chaotic and full of many different genres, she's talked about feeling "free" from any kind of genre or musical restraints while making LG7, and she even said the album had some "dreamy" songs—which DWAS is.

So yeah, it's a cash grab 100%. We know that. But Gaga has also been on a creative high for the past few months (i.e., Harlequin, DWAS, and Disease). It's wild to me that people are throwing that all away because she decided to put one song on LG7.

And this is different from "10 variants or voice memos." It's literally one song :smh: This isn't some desperate attempt to make herself relevant again or boost album sales because she's so greedy that she can't not have a #1 album; it's good business.

given i havent heard the rest of the album im presuming its an odd choice musically but from a business perspective it makes complete sense. idk shes had ballads on almost all her albums that stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the album (brown eyes, again again, speechless, dope) hell even perfect illusion the lead is absolutely nothing like the rest of joanne.

we're all just used to those tracklists at this point so they dont feel as weird.

i understand all the fans that are yelling at this decision. lets be honest its a strategic move to bring on more streaming to LG7. but also, its GAGA. the statement above is a good statment she knows how to mix everything and more about if the album is called CHAOS

yeah I get it too, but wow the overreaction of it all, I don’t understand why being “strategic” should be considered such a negative thing, especially after she’s put out a completely non-strategic single just to please the fans who ultimately paid it dust so…

I mean it isn't any different from the 10 different variants. At all, really. Both are commercial tactics intended to boost streams, sales or chart positions. It's not going to keep me awake, just as it doesn't with Taylor (despite Taylor's tactics annoying me too, as a huge Taylor fan), but people acting like Taylor's particularly greedy or desperate for doing it then making all kinds of excuses when Gaga does bothers me.

And let's be honest, Taylor doesn't need to do anything to make herself relevant, she's the biggest popstar in the world. Both cases are cases of decisions being made to boost streams or increase an album's chart potential.

I swear she did an interview, probably one of the many pre-joker interviews, where she was straight up asked if DWAS was going to be on lg7 and she literally said no

They're both similar in that they're ways to boost album sales, but I think the execution is completely different. I don't particularly care for Taylor, but I think it's clear that when she does those things, it's because she's greedy and wants more people to buy the album and continually make her #1.

I think Gaga cares about her chart success, but I don't think this compromises her artistic integrity whatsoever. Adding in one song (that we don't even know will be on the deluxe version or a bonus track) doesn't have the same magnitude as 10 variants, voice memos, etc.

Let's be real Gaga is doing here what other are doing for ages. She shouldn't be trashed for this especially by other fanbases of pop stars who are very strategic when it's about charts (Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and much much more). If she really wanted ARUTW and Bloody Mary would have been #1 for weeks and multi billionaires in streams.

For once Gaga is being charts smart, let's not trash her for this. She deserves her flowers. We should be happy for her.

I think this is what is making people go nuts. Obviously she changed or was forced to change her mind. If she didn't say anything I am sure there wouldn't be this riot :billie:

Obviously the record label decided to add it. I’m surprised as well but it’s all good, looking forward to hearing the rest

In the vogue interview she did recently we were told she lies in interviews:

“There was a time in my career when I…. Look….”—she cocks an eyebrow and slips into a self mocking tone—“where I spoke in an accent in interviews or told lies, but I was performing. Now, it’s a much more palatable mixture of authenticity and imagination. I feel like the world, to a fault, operates in these binaries: You’re either real or you’re fake; you’re authentic or you’re shallow. But for me, I played a lot with artifice. I was fascinated with artifice, really, truly fascinated with it as an artistic tool. I still am. But my relationship to myself as an artist now is more empowered: This is me. This. Is. Me. It’s too…complicated to split yourself in two and have to turn it off and on. It’s so much more empowering to be like, I’m a woman and I’m super complex. Michael said to me once, ‘I will know that you’re really feeling great when you know that you have you.’ I used to always be like, But who’s gonna have my back?! And now I’m like, I’ve got my back.”

In a way, this is a tool she's able to wield, we should never believe anything she says in interviews, that's my take on this :ladyhaha:

Cameltoe Chariot

All you dorks saying it won't fit on the album when Speechless, Brown Eyes, Dope, Angel Down, You and I and so many more equally structured ballads are tossed into her other albums too....

She's literally been doing this since The Fame. Do you guys even listen to her? :alsemanche:
