While at the Mufasa: The Lion King L.A. premiere on Monday, Dec. 9, director Barry Jenkins, 45, revealed that while it's easy to assume the pre-teen got her role in the film because of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, that's not entirely the case.

"Her parents weren't involved in her booking this film"

"You know, she had read this book, this audiobook Hair Love with my friend Matthew Cherry. And I just really loved her voice. Because [when] this movie begins, it's all voices. I could just tell that she was going to bring this really wonderful innocence, but also the knowingness of a highly evolved child," he explained.
"And she is... the children in the audience, they're going to see themselves in the character she plays, Kiara. She just brought all the complexity that it demanded."

In Mufasa, Beyoncé reprises her voiceover role as Nala, while lioness cub Kiara is voiced by Blue Ivy.

I mean wasn't Beyoncé in the last one? :laughga:

I don't see the point in pretending the nepotism isn't real. If she's got the talent to work the role then who cares how she got it?

I’m sure it has nothing to do with Beyonce being in the remake and The Gift :awkney:

Noooooo of course not. She's the most talented 12-year-old voice actor in America, that's why she got the part.

That's precisely why she also has a Grammy.

Blue Ivy is a true artist.

Ok sure lol. Wasn't also Beyoncé the reason Halle Bailey got cast as The Little Mermaid?

Edit: Not complaining btw she did amazing but there was the discussion that Beyoncé agreed to do the Lion King as long as Halle Bailey got cast as Ariel.

Although they may have not helped her directly, she definitely got it out of nepotism and being their child, you’d be wild to think otherwise. Plus Beyoncé literally voiced a main character AND did a conceptual album to promote the original remake.
