imnotyourbabe10 6,058
Fellow Monsters, has there been a consensus about the video's meaning (aside from her post) explaining the video? I'm struggling to get the versions of her straight (lol). So plague doc is "the" Gaga/Stefani? Then the pink nailed one is ARTPOP? Or is the plaid one ARTPOP or Joanne? The two bound up are TF/TFM? The vomited one (which reminded me of SXSW Swine) seems so Chromatica. Feels like I'm missing BTW? (Or does none of this matter and I'm reaching lol). Love the JWT interlude reference with the walls. The gimp/plague doc Gaga in all the backgrounds reminds me of her in Alejandro, overseeing the dancers/army. The suburbia and daylight setting is great (Midsommar is such a good daylight horror film, for example). The song has so many song-references - I ****ing love it. I think some references range from The Cure, Bad Romance, Sine From Above, Perfect Illusion, Sinner's Prayer. Thanks for this wonderful start to the LG7 era, Gaga! Super excited for all of her projects this year and beyond.

The video is full of details, you can really tell she gave it all on this, we are lucky to be able to witness it this evolution, because we never seen her like this imo, despite people some people saying this is "back to the roots", I disagree, this feels like a level up and something different, sure, it borrows from the BTW aesthetic but it feels fresh and new. The melody that you choose can rescue you

I wouldn't shoehorn my theory as the consensus but below is what i've gathered from the mv On 10/31/2024 at 3:29 AM, onionring said: I'm not really up for writing a detailed essay on the mv but I agree with alot of you guys' theories and as someone said on here before I really am thrilled that a lot of people are not getting it not in a condescending way or anything but it you guys in gaga's "path to redemption" from the GP we been getting a lot of in a your face nothing burgers and i'm not in anyway shape or form diminishing her later work but i can't help but feel that she really became addicted to love of the whole world resulting in losing her vision a bit so it gives me such great joy to see y'all theories about it now. I see how you can interrupt it like she's reconciling with her previous eras or past work but i think it touches upon the personas associated within those eras and how she delt with those times by creating avatars for the mindset rather than the themes within the eras themselves what i got from the the narrative is gaga in black is the core personality i call her "the watcher" perceiving the all aspects of trauma fighting within we first see her hitting her "damaged" self and the first thing she lip-syncs to is scream for me baby to her damaged self after the latter open with verse There are no more tears to cry I heard you beggin' for life Runnin' out of medicine You're worse than you've ever been tormenting her with the trauma saying you need to bleed/relive/replay this to feel alive in a way then "damaged" is fighting with flannelga who i think is the part of herself whose dependent or more prune to use substances (could be a reach and i have no references for this but it fits this narrative that she watching herself use to cope ... and flannels) we contniue with her watching her glamga hurting herself as if she's is obligated to cuz gaga thinks that what the audience and label and market want (we cheer for the decay of the popstar ) like stuck in the idea that we only care for her if and when she shows us how ****ed her life really was through art (i.e fans demanding gaga channeling dark and traumatizing themes over and over again) she is stuck in this cycle of trauma dumping for the public while trying to manage her trauma which in a way became her doctor consoling her she became addicted to the sadness feeling like she's not an artist without it. comes chromatica which i think is the only era that makes an appearance on the video for the whole process of creating that album, being in love and the TCB being an cumulative turning point in her life through which she finally accepted that through her her art she can manifest a balanced viewpoint of all what had happened (i.e the walls closing in when she stops dancing in the final minute of the video) and as she walks to the car to keep driving not tormented like in the slowmo nor consumed by the darkness or the countess menecing vibes like in the begging like how she used to perceive herself but strutting. she is accepting her awareness of herself she's not stuck in the imposter syndrome anymore she's just being herself with all her self if that makes sense and if that's the case im really happy for her and really excited to see how lg7 will explore her retrospection on her life. hope this was an easy enough read if not sorry then i guess

I love the fact that Gaga started as this visuals chameleon, and managed to become a vocals chameleon. she’s truly one of a kind, it’s crazy to me that we got DWAS, Harlequin and Disease at the same year, while you might not connect to all if them they are all crazy good!
