MEM 2,941
Honestly the more I think about it, the more I want to see it. All the controversy aside, it's such a cool movie. Just something different. Edited October 7 by MEM

The movie as a whole though is very… inconsistent? There’s a lot of great scenes and the musical moments are outstanding. But the story doesn’t go anywhere… like at all. That explosion at the height of Joker’s monologue is such a lazy intervention?? Like why?? And Harleen’s back story is so poorly thought out. It feels like they wanted to give Joker as a character another chance to shine and while Phoenix is absolutely phenomenal, the overall plot lacks a motor and intention. I give it a 3/5 because the actors give great performances and the production design is great. But the story lacks vision. The explosion, actually, happens during the sentencing. After his monologue. NarlesLM 487
Just finished second watching and saw little details that I didn't catch the first time. * Spoiler alert * I found it interesting how they never get to announce if he got death penalty or not (since the explosion happens right after the guilty verdict). Which leaves the possibility that the ending is another of his delusions while, in reality, he is being executed for his crimes. That would explain the "you have a visitor" the guard says when we know there's no one left to pay him a visit - this could be how he sees things when the guards are actually conducing him to the execution room 9.5/10 for me. Not a 10 because I see little editing problems... Edited October 7 by NarlesLM 3

Leoj305 2,950
so I just saw.... it..... Spoilers: Spoiler I believe the general messages of the movie(s) was that we did follow the story of a Joker in Arther, and he started a movement , THE JOKER MOVEMENT(I really believe that should have been more obvious and shown throughout the movie vs the immense amount of time focused on some of the court scenes, so that's a missed oppurtunity imo), that grew along with his mental illness, and although he tried to participate at one point in the grandiose of the fame, he realized reality, that he was just a man who wanted to blow it all up, and end his life and start over. Once he gave up on the movement he created, the movement left Arthur behind, hence the scene where he tells HQ to stop singing, and to just talk to him, and she doesn;t stop, because her singing is a symbol of the JOKER, and she was not interested in Arthur but in Joker, the entire movie literally has her saying she loves the "real" him. I actually got into an argument with my bf, because he thought the movie sucked and was a waste of money.... I told him it would be a waste if this movie did not bridge another, which I know Todd said he was done with DC, so that might just be the case. But I think the movie definitely opened a door to create a HQ side movie, where she grooms a new joker, that eventually is closer to the canon joker we all know. Regardless I see why it is mega controversial. We were led to believe that this joker was the joker from the comics.... but based on that ending, and him RUNNING away from literally the people who tried saving him, that he IS NOT the Joker, but Arthur. Joker is not a man, but a movement..... that's my semi summaraized 2 cents on what I think the message of these two movies were.... I hope there is some type of continuation in that universe.... just because it would validate this one's existence a bit more.... but I wonder what you guys think of my perspective on the film? I agree with there being too much singing and would have loved a bit more unhinged Harley, but I don't get the negativity. While I was at the theatre, some people did leave early, and some did Pout and seemed bothered by the musical numbers, especially when Arthur started singing.... and Gaga too.... it just did not hit with the general public.... I really tried to see what the message was here, and I was able to see a message with the films, but when people see singing, and a boring court scene being drawn out for over an hour... it takes effort to remove the negativity and try to connect the dots the director left in the film....
Takox 255
Watched the movie last night. I'm sad that this is such a miss opportunity, the musical scenes do not really take off except for a couple of them, such as the one about gonna build a mountain or the fire scene. At least all of Gaga's scenes are VERY good and captivating, although I don't understand why they have removed many of the ones that are in the trailers or were leaked. I hope she is at least happy with her work and can participate in new stories with better directors or scripts for her in the future. JazmineRice 793
I saw Joker 2 y'all. I was captivated by Gaga’s performance, as well as by Phoenix’s, but the movie overall was very lacking. The plot and development of characters and their connections was not giving. I cringed a couple times. I would not watch it again I hate to say. I’m excited to see her next acting gig! She definitely killed

Oriane 19,662
It's interesting that a lot of people say "I liked the movie, sure it's not flawless but it's not bad" etc. I actually found several flaws that bothered me in the first one, even though I really liked it, but I can barely find anything that bothers me as much in FÀD. Nothing that actually brings the movie down. You popped my heart seams, all my bubble dreams
lance13 984
Phillips has said that Arthur was NEVER meant to be "the Joker". Now with this ending, it completely makes sense. Arthur was just a broken man. He was mentally ill and all of a sudden gained fame by doing horrible things. In this movie, after losing Ricky.....among other things, he realizes and accepts what hes done. In the process, the "real" Joker is born. 3
Poker 3,633
I watched the movie last night and I LOVED IT! Solid 9 out of 10. I understood the choice of cutting some Gaga scenes and the movie is SO meta it's amazing. Kindness rules all. 3
Gagaplayer315 13,422
The movie was ok, it was entertaining most of the time, but it got completely derailed by the end, what a horrible finale. Seriously who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to make it a musical???????? I told everyone in this cult site 2 years ago this was the worst decision she could've made and boy was I right The only good thing that came out of this was the masterpiece that is Harlequin But now let's get ready for LG7 and forget this mess ever happened
SolidSnake 2,791
Yikes. Gaga deserves better than that.
Bowman 7,748
Theory: *spoiler* The more I think about it, the more this movie makes sense. It’s actually genius, Arthur Fleck was never the Joker! The guy at the end was, and it was passed on to him. The film kinda feels like a social experiment in some way, we all wanted Arthur fleck to be what he wanted him to be. But we all neglected him like Harley did as soon as he was back to Arthur - we didn’t love him for who he was. Most people thought the ending was meaningless because that’s how Arthur felt his life was meaningless! His laugh always happened at the times we didn’t laugh, but as a society we laugh at what we think is acceptable - he was different and we didn’t accept him! Also there is apparently two jokers, one of them is called Jack Napier in 1989. Maybe that’s who the guy was at the end? Some people think it’s the Heath Ledger version but I’m not sure. That’s why there was a joker movement with all of his fans. The me and my shadow cartoon of Joker at the start could be the reason the film is called “folie a deux” and nothing to do with Harley. It’s between Arthur and Joker. The clue is in the name of the film, joker. We were all fooled by it and that’s why the film was a “joke” and hasn’t done well because we all were lead to believe it was going to be something else. I think this movie is very smart, I think probably too smart for us to comprehend lol Check out my new single 'Loon' - https://open.spotify.com/track/7q1GGm2mBlC9hPWige0C6e?si=6b5319d0e3b44fa6 2
