That's what many stans don't get with the "X is overrated" comments.

It's not to say they're lame, just that they're presented as nearly-Gods when nope they're not that perfect.

I'm not saying but in Ed's case his music is truely not that bad, especially not Divide

Pitchfork just in general seem to rate the album less on actual merit and more on the perception of the artist via stan twitter

Not an Ed Sheeran fan but that album has lots of global hits.
