International Court issues arrest warrant for Putin

Unlikely to be enforceable now, but if Putin is removed from power eventually, this will make it more likely that he'll be arrested especially if he leaves Russia

Is it unenforceable because he would retaliate and wage bigger (possibly global) wars?

Sorry I'm probably not as politically informed as I should be.

Unenforceable probably because he's now the president of Russia, and he's unlikely to travel to countries that could comply with the warrant. If he ever returns to civilian life, even at old age, that could change however.

This is great, but how come they didn't issue arrest warrants to those responsible for other illegal wars such as Iraq? Wouldn't be easier for the US to enforce an arrest of Bush who is an US citizens rather than Putin who is not? Puzzling why is the case.. :oprah:

To condemn some wars as illegal is probably better than to not condemn any. The point still stands that nobody likes selective morality and no country is going to hand over their war criminals if they see that the rules apply hypocritically only when the big ones see fit.

Predicted response from Mr. FfFfFfF if Putin nukes Kyiv:

"This is bad. But why can't we talk instead about how how U.S used nukes in 1945. HypOcRiSy!!!!"

Maybe just maybe, instead of whataboutism, we're more focused on addressing and changing things that we can change in our lifetime.  You can't change the past, you can change the present.

You think anyone here supports Bush or the invasion of Iraq? Go make a thread about the war in Iraq. Go make a thread about Vietnam war. That would be the genuine way to show that you care to inform people about that. It's the 20th anniversary of the Operation Iraqi Freedom. Did you make a thread about it to educate people? No, you did not. Because you only use these topics to distract from criticism of Russia. You only use them to serve Russian propaganda.

Predictible deflection from miss American foreign policy fanboy.

You can prosecute Bush IN YOUR LIFE TIME baby. What stops the West from jailing those war criminals responsible for attrocities and setting up and exemple for Russia? How can you be surprised other countries act corrupt when you have a law that explicitely says YOU will invade the Netherlands if any American is prosecuted? Tell me. Explain me the coherency.

''oUr lIfEtImE'' Bush and Blair are not people from the Bronze Age but real American and British citizens that probably drink their cofee on their porch now. You can prosecute them in your lifetime.

Pointless and stupid af. Especially this month when 20 years happened after the lethal trio Bush/Blair/Aznar took us to war in Iraq. And they all 3 have wealthy lives nowadays. Some wars are fine but some others are not? F*ck all :fthis:

Are you able to use your brain for a moment and read the article before chiming in? If you read the article, the arrest warrant is not for the invasion of Ukraine, and it's not for Russian generals or Russian soldiers. It's for Putin and his top children official who set up a scheme to illegally deport tens of thousands of children from Ukraine to Russia. ICC cannot and does not prosecute countries for declaring wars on other countries. It can prosecute war crimes committed by individuals that can stem from these military actions if there's sufficient evidence. That's how the statute is written. I wish it had the authority to prosecute countries for invading other countries. But it does not. Being mad at them and calling them "stupid", is just being ignorant of the limited powers they have.

Amazing. So because Bush didn't take Iraqi children to the US he is not a war criminal and the ICC cannot prosecute him. I just knew you would serve the mental gymnastics and you did not dissapoint. :lmao:

Feel free to reword what I said as you wish, but anyone with minimum level of reading comprehension can understand my reply. You seem to be a troll who's only interested in whataboutism and distracting from the topic at hand. I'm very familiar with your pro-russian type, people who don't really care about Iraq, or Palestine but only bring up these examples as a convenience to distract from Russia's atrocities. If you care about these countries, then go make a thread dedicated to discussing these topics. Maybe they deserve a lot more than being little whataboutism points that you can conveniently use to deflect from Putin?

You can put how many words and sentences you want in your replies, it doesn't change the fact that you are acting hypocritical. Bush and Blaire are war criminals full stop, ilegally invading a country based on lies and responsible for thousands of deaths including civilians - some of which were raped or tortured, completely ****ing up the entire country and the Middle East and they roam free.

You rejoice a war criminal is called war criminal, great. It makes no difference if you put no effort into prosecuting everybody else. You cannot scream about Russia threatening to invade other countries every other day if you sleep when it comes to the Hague Invasion Act. You can be against all imperialism or against some.
