Okay, I actually don't know what Kanye West had said, nor do I care, but I totally agree with Akon. Everyone deserves the freedom of speech. That's a basic human right.

Nobody in this thread or anyone in the wider community is asking for Kanye to be locked up or killed for thinking or saying what he thinks/says.

What people are saying is that when someone tweets out “I’m going death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE”, gets on a show and says “there’s a lot of things that I love about Hitler” and posts swastikas on social media they should not be given giant platforms to spread those radical, violent and antisemitic  views.

People a saying that others should condemn such violent, disgusting and bigoted remarks and completely renounce and condemn them.

Sad how the culture wars got so bad that saying “let’s not allow somebody to take advantage of media platforms, including social media, to spread hateful and violent rhetoric - also let’s speak out against such ideas and reject them because they are dangerous and don’t reflect the society we want to live in and accept” suddenly turns into a free speech argument :smh:

Please stop with the right wing talking points, telling Nazi sympathisers that they are not welcome on T.V shows or social media platforms and telling them their ideas are disgusting is not diminishing anybody’s free speech - it’s a pretty fair and measured response to the speech he has been free to speak.

Kanye is still free to spout his bullshit elsewhere and is free to say believe what he wants without fear of legal persecution.

If Kanye wants to start a podcast that has Nazi’s sharing their ideas on it, or if Kanye wants to start a social media site where Nazi’s spread their rhetoric, he is legally able to do so regardless of how dangerous, disgusting and bigoted that would be - he has freedom of speech. If other people and other bigger platforms don’t want to endorse him (and actively denounce him) then that’s also their right!

If I had a podcast or a social media site - I wouldn’t want my platform used to endorse those ideas and I shouldn’t be forced to include their ideas on my platform. I’m sure you wouldn’t that on any platform you created either.

I can't believe we live in an age where showing explicit and avid support for NAZIS and HITLER is just seen as a "difference of opinion".

Some people nowadays want to argue that people are "too sensitive", "too woke", or just love living in an age of "cancel culture", but this is going too far in the opposite direction. It shouldn't be a difficult thing to denounce Nazis and anyone who supports them. This isn't people being "sensitive" or simply having a "difference of opinion". This kind of rhetoric extremely dangerous.

What’s even more sad is he said he is not troubled by the comment cuz it doesn’t affect him personally. Especially sad seeing it come from a black man, who I thought would be sensitive against such racist bs. We don’t need to be personally affected.

I would rather think that’s highly possible he doesn’t even know what Nazi is or who Hitler was. I refuse to believe h would say such a dumb thing :saladga:

Famous people should educate themselves better before speaking up

Kanye is clearly saying those things for the sake of controversy at this point

Maybe he dropped out of school or something :bear: who knows. I’m not  defending him though. He’s either extremely dumb or a nazi apologist to a certain level by publicly defending Kanye at this point

You can't reason with bigotry because bigotry (racism, antisemitism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism' etc) is, by it's very nature, irrational. You can only crush it.

This is what happens when an irrelevant person wants to keep ties with someone who he thinks is powerful.

When asked if he was troubled by the comments made by the rapper, Akon said:
“Not really because those comments don't really affect me personally... and if it does affect you personally then find a way to actually respond in a way to where that conversation can be reciprocated.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Right. We get it. You're a narcissist lacking the ability to feel empathy for others. Thanks for confirming.

Dumb, ignorant, hateful, or whatever he is we know he's dangerous regardless and anyone (celebrities) who decides to speak on it and not strongly condemn it is validating and perpetuating that danger

Or, in other words, I don't personally care about their intentions or reasoning 'cause the damage done is the same either way
