I do not know how to feel about this whole situation. In Germany many people do not like or care about gay people, gay soccer players are scared to come out and eventually get bullied out of their profession. Gay people who tried to find asylum in Germany are being sent back with their homosexuality being revealed to authorities, showing no empathy and lack of understanding about what gay people go through in countries where their sexuality is still illegal.

Additionally, a player of the German Team just today said he will not let go of his dream in order to show a political sign. Mind you, these people all have multiple million dollars and will join the European Soccer Cup just in 2 years.

Luckily, the german Team is losing sponsors now, because what they’re doing is - nothing.

I also wonder how much an armband will even do. If you really care about equal rights and want to show support, why do you even compete? Why do you not collectively say no?

Sorry for all this rambling, but I have so many thoughts about this whole situaiton.

lol? Where do you get the „in Germany many people don’t like gay people“ information? It’s one the most lgbt+ country out there. Also people who are seeking asylum because of sexual orientation arent send back… most of what you say is just wrong :laughga:

Maybe go have a read at these.

Just because Germany is (slowly) having more (basic) rights for LGBT People, that doesn’t mean that there are still many people who are hostile towards them nor don’t think it’s normal. Anti-discriminatory laws are just now being thought of. If that doesn’t tell you how the society thinks, I don’t know what does.

I don’t know. It just seemS like a big mistake for the people at FIFA To decide to have the tournament in Qatar. If FIFA’s values are about love and representation of their footballers, why would they decide to have the tournament in Qatar?

I'm seeing all the homophobes on twitter celebrating Germany's defeat today because they supported LGBT rights.

We really can't win with these vile creatures. :bradley:

Uff... i read the article and feel sorry for the people who experienced these rulings. The article also dates 5 months back with thousand of people coming to Germany due to the Russian war, so numbers might be a little off i assume, though i havent read the statistics this magazine article bases their report on. "Half a dozen" means 6 people... discrimination and wrong ruling against even one person isn't right, but sadly still happens. But based on that saying Germany is a country thats not supportive of Queernes is just wrong. This country has been in the hands of CDU/CSU for the last 16 years, a lot has been put on the back burner on state level during this time but this doesnt mean the "society thinks" a certain way or another. The current coalition is doing a lot to help clean up and push even further but regardless, Germany is more than save for Queers. Evil and disgusting people are in every society thats just in the nature of it all. But i have never felt unsafe here, because even if something's happening on the streets, people all around speak up and will come to your aid. So maybe do a little research yourself and don't just read one magazine, but actually talk to people. :bye:

The second article mentions 70 cases and those include Pakistan and Iran. There are studies about how people think about Queerness and how hate against gay people is rising that I can link below. My point in the post is that this support for gay rights was never as prominent or discussed when it came to Germany.
