Holy hell! Thatā€™s WAY more streams than I was expecting šŸ˜… I thought the song was subpar / meh šŸ«¤ and was thinking itā€™d be lucky to get 1.5 mil. Assuming itā€™s big on Tik Tok? Either way - happy for their success. Especially for Kim - her nameā€™s never been attached to something that massive.Ā

Itā€™s massive on TikTok, thatā€™s it.Ā

Itā€™s basically labelsā€™ new strategy ā€” wait until a song is unavoidable on TikTok and then release it. Itā€™s actually not really new ā€” they did something similar in the 90s and 00s, they would release a song to the radio but not anywhere else, and when literally everyone knew the song and were dying to purchase it, they released it on physicals/iTunes.

People called it ā€œrepressingā€, hereā€™s some discussion on it:

Ā

Lil Nas X did a very extreme version ofĀ this with ā€œCall Me By Your Nameā€, he shared a snippet of the song like a whole year before release and was uploading TikToks with it every day to the point that everybody knew the lyrics before the song was even out.
