Holy hell! That’s WAY more streams than I was expecting 😅 I thought the song was subpar / meh 🫤 and was thinking it’d be lucky to get 1.5 mil. Assuming it’s big on Tik Tok? Either way - happy for their success. Especially for Kim - her name’s never been attached to something that massive.

It’s massive on TikTok, that’s it. 

It’s basically labels’ new strategy — wait until a song is unavoidable on TikTok and then release it. It’s actually not really new — they did something similar in the 90s and 00s, they would release a song to the radio but not anywhere else, and when literally everyone knew the song and were dying to purchase it, they released it on physicals/iTunes.

Lil Nas X did a very extreme version of this with “Call Me By Your Name”, he shared a snippet of the song like a whole year before release and was uploading TikToks with it every day to the point that everybody knew the lyrics before the song was even out.
