Ontario finds Canada’s first cases of Omicron COVID-19 variant

Canada has detected its first two cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

A statement from the Ontario Ministry of Health confirmed that cases of the variant, recently declared as the novel coronavirus’ fifth variant of concern by the WHO, have been identified in Ontario.

“Today, the province of Ontario has confirmed two cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Ottawa, both of which were reported in individuals with recent travel from Nigeria. Ottawa Public Health is conducting case and contact management and the patients are in isolation,” read the statement.

Fingers crossed the initial predictions are true and it's less deadly than the other variants. Being more contagious means it'll beat out the others as the dominant strain then we're one step closer to an endemic, but safer, covid virus

Plus Pfizer and Moderna will have vaccines ready for Omicron within the next few months so no worries yet.

Right now yes, I forget her name but a Health Ambassador from South Africa had reported that so far all of the confirmed cases of Omicron have been very mild in severity and nothing alarming at this time in terms of deadlier than Delta.

This is misleading, the statement was that people who are vaccinated seem to have had an extremely mild case - however they were young and didn’t have any known comorbidities as for unvaccinated it is still unknown how it affects them but it is assumed to be severe

Covid is over for who ? Maybe for those who are more fortunate to not have the struggles of having an auto immune disease like myself. I don't get to go out and have fun like everyone else does. Until you know what it's like to have lupus and manage that daily, I don't think you get to decide how things affect other people. It's a very real threat to me and I can't imagine how lucky others must be living their lives normally.
